I'm 44. I started drawing dragsters and making models at 4. I bought my first car at age 15. It was a 71 firebird for $700. My dad wasn't.....isn't a car guy. In highschool he sat me down at the kitchen table and gave me the " cars are to get from point "A" to point "B" lecture"..... hahaha... as if!
I owned several cars before i left for college. When i left I put away all the hotrod and carcraft magazines and put all my energy into school. I had buried my car sickness pretty well until my wife's friends husband was selling a 59 ford truck for $400. I figured it would be fun to mess with......6 months later you had to squeeze sideways through our two car garage. Attic access was in the garage...and the drywall on the ceiling had cracks from all the car parts stuffed up there :) I had always been a musclecar guy until i saw a blown 32 coupe in late highschool...then i knew what i wanted. I finally have the dream i've had since I was very young ...a shop to work in and a lifetimes worth of projects waiting for me :) Why fight the sickness....:D

  2. I was born in '67, and the two cars that got me bit were my aunt's old 1963? Vette convertible. My dad borrowed it for the weekend and was thinking about buying it, he bought a 1976 VW bug instead. He is not a car guy.

My neighbor growing up had a 1969 Camaro RS with big'n littles, rears stuck out about two inches out of the fenders. I spent what seems like hours standing on the sidewalk talking to him watching him change plugs or wash it.

I had a '64 GTO in college that was a former race car, that was interesting. a few years later I had money again and started buying multiple cars.

I am 60. We never had a car when I was young so it must be in my genes. Like others have said I did the model car thing and by the time i was 8 I could name every car on the road. First car was a 55 Ford Crown Victoria. Wish I had it now. At 23 I learned you can't make your weekend car your daily driver. Got my Hot Rod 35 years ago.

47 yrs -- if you count my 1st go kart when i was 10
it used the drive train from a reel mower; 2x4 frame; baby carriage wheels up frnt
not very fast --- but it could do wheelies !!!
just open throttle then mash the stick that served as clutch pedal
i added a seat back after getting my shirt caught in the flywheel :)
