I'm 26 and I've been fascinated by all things automotive all my life. I was a late birth that didn't arrive until the day after my folks got rid of their '71 Volkswagen Squareback. I apparently wasn't coming out until it was gone! After my dinosaur fixation wore off at 8 years old it was nothing but cars and music. Ever since I was 17 I've had some kind of car that doesn't fit in with the usual traffic starting with my 1973 Monte Carlo. I don't know how I got the sickness, my parents hate cars! My interests became focused on the traditional rod and custom scene about 5 years ago.

I'm 56 - Started in '68 with a '55 Chevy 210 post, original 265 and Powerglide. Loved it. Went thru the musclecar era, drag racing and crusin'. Now after raising my children and seeing the car craze that the H.A.M.B.er's are living, I have taken on a Model A based (All Ford) traditional rod. Having lots of fun with the technology Henry pioneered. While I'm here, if anyone in the Dayton, Ohio area would like to come by and take a look, my shop is open. Thanks.....RETROD

59 years now, earliest memories are cars. Parents brought me 'home' to SoCal from chicago in a custom bodied Jeep Dad built - he had to sell his daily driver Dusenburg indy car because of the move. Been cuting on and under cars since I was very young - I could get places the old couldn't. First real car was a SBC '53 Studebaker in '67. Seems I had no chioce - Dad built his - what is now old school - A-V8 in '42 and Grandad was running a modified "T" in '22. Always had old cars in the blood. I have ben doing and redoing my '46 Stude PU since '69 - never finished and never will.

I'm 70 and still building. Back in Pgh, where I grew up, Dad got me my first car when I was 8, 1926 Star, never ran but I wrenched on it. Then about 12 he got me an A 2dr sdn and the rest was history. He had a plan, if I had a car I wouldn't be chasing girls, and it worked for a while, but he started it. And its been Fords ever since, except for an awson 40 Buick Super. and a 65 Chevy Van. I liked the Van so well, that I got a 2nd one from California (no rust), and did a second van, Buick powered, and just reciently cut it up for scrap. Body was gone, but the axles are being used for my new build. It a proud profession, bulding Hot Rods, and I will die still building one. Ice man

I am 32 and started painting cars when I was about 6 years old, actually it was my pedal car and I was using spray cans.:D My Dad has been building custom cars and race cars for about 47 years, so growing up in his garage there was no way I was getting away from the car scene even though he wanted me to have nothing to do with them. Now that I am older he is glad that I am into it because we spend a lot of time together in the garage.I started doing serious body work when I was about 12-13 years old.

Well, I started receiving a paycheck working everyday after school and work all summer at my uncle's frame shop and i was 14. Soooooooo, I would say I have 27 years in the business. 41 doesn't seem old, but it is when you have worked everyday, with no downtime between any job I have had during my life. I sure do need a vacation! It's been 2 years since the last one!

I'm 33 now,In highschool, I went half a day to a votech school for autobody repair.I was taught by a********* German man named Mr. Zuch.He was pretty old school, and I actually listened to him,and learned a lot.I went in the USMC and kinda lost touch for a while.I had $400 "extra money" one day, looked on ebay, found a shoebox about 7miles away for sale, won it,went online to find more about these cars.Found the HAMB. Reunited with my old pal Tony, and I've been brainwashed ever since.Thank you Ryan.Today I'm a Mazda/VW dealer tech paying the bills, taking care of 2 kids with a very sick wife, finding 10minutes here and there to try to build something respectable.

I'm 17, got my '64 c-10 when I was 14. Got my '69 C-20 at 15 and restored it with my dad. Now I drive the '69 to school and I'm working on my '64. This time its my project and dad is completely hands off. My dad is an aircraft mechanic for American Airlines, and I've spend countless nights in the garage working on anything and everything with him, learning something new all the time. I guess if I had to pinpoint the defining moment, it was at age 4 with my first dirt bike, of course it didn't run yet. I got a carburetor for Christmas that year!

Has there ever been a day in my life w/o cars?????????
My grand dad,was way into cars, He built sprints, midgets similar to the one above, he owned Cords,Auburns, Jags even put a huge Merc V8 into a CJ in 64/5. Did this stuff till the day he died 18yrs ago.

My dad always drove what today would be a well used car(s) and they'd be like Studes Edsel Pacers, 49-54 Mercs 49-54 Chevys,55 T-Bird and finally a brand new 68 GTO Hard Top, and Firebird 400. He passed away almost a year ago to today but still had(s) a performance car, black in color even.

I picked it up from his taking me to the places that I try to save now, so that one day kids of the future will be able to carry on as well.

Since I was 4yr old. I always claimed the 55 Bird. They got it brand new and I fought like hell to make sure that they always kept it. I guess I'd have to say since I was 4=:).

Jeez there's a lotta old guys on here!:p
I'm only 18.Had cars in the blood since birth.First word I ever said was car.

My dad is definitely NOT a car guy.Neither are any of my uncles or my gramps.
Learned all I know(which is not much!!) from dismantling everything in sight and reading up and looking on the net and stuff.
Got my first car at 15,a 1982 Austin Mini, which I promptly dismantled.Intended to modify obviously but bought a Mini van out of a field and got sorta sidetracked;)
I now own 6 of the little*******s :D,have completely taken over the family garage(my dads late model sleeps outside) and am the village laughing stock!! But I don't care,I'm having fun and some day I WILL finish one of them:D

Got into my line of work just to be around cars and to get a basic education in metal fab.(I'm a panel beater)
Sure beats sitting behind a desk!!

Have always been into the oldies.Newer cars are just not fun to work on.Besides there's just something about old cars.Maybe it's their potential, the potential to be whatever you want them to be.Or maybe I've been breathing welding gas too long!!

Someday I'll build a real hot rod.An American one.Till then I'll just try and follow in JangleGuy's footsteps and find me a Morris:D

Hi,I will be 60 in October and have been into cars since I started reading the hot rod books when I was about 10.Sold my pushbike when I was 13 and bought my first car,a 1938 Ford Club Roadster.Had a spot on top of our hill where we kids could drive it around and annoy the neighbours.
The fuel line dropped out of the old 97 one day and leaking fuel on the old flatty caused a fire. The only way to put it out was with dirt from the
neighbours rose garden bed.He wasn't happy. He was a car man too with 3 Jaguars

Hotrodding and now into custom cars as well. This hobby has been my life for so long and has given us so much enjoyment and provided us with so many great friends both at home and in the USA.

There is something about hot rodding that just automatically enables us to make instant friends and forge long term relationships.

Hope to be still doing it in 20 years.Too many cars wanted and not enough time.

I am 34 years old....I lived with my grandparents.
So I grew up around hot rods, Detroit muscle and customs.
My Grandfather was a mechanical engineer for Gates Rubber Co....but after WWII he lived in Southern California from 1945 - 1953. He and his 4 brothers were hot rod hooligans and brought their craft back home to Denver.
He always had some "project" he was building in the garage.
Very good memories...and am very thankful for the knowledge he has passed down.

I'm 36 and always noticed the older cars when i was a kid. I just liked the look of the pre 70s cars compared to the mostly mid 70s and 80s cars that were on the roads whan I grew up. I just likes the lines and chrome. I still remember some people around who drove older cars and trucks 40s-60s when I was in elementary school. some of them (mostly elderly men) still have them now and i still like to see them crusing down the local roads.

I celebrated my 66th birthday in April. My step-dad was a reserve LA cop, he took me to spend entire days at the LA autorama in 53 and 54. I was hooked on models at 10, spent a whole day at the drags at 12, and never looked back. Always had a rod or a plan for one.

Yeah, my Dad was not a car guy either. But I rmember when I was little our driveway had my Dads 1970 Chrysler Newport, and all of my brother's cars, a 68 GTO, 70 Dart, 69 Gran Prix, 65 Tempest Ragtop. None of those fit in this board but I would like to have all of those in my driveway now !

    I'm 37.

Grew up in Yuma, AZ, a ton of old iron around. Starting around 10, helped parents friends wrenching on desert race cars. Got into VWs, owned about 25 ghias, notchbacks, vans, etc. Had a chance to buy a '67 camaro for $2,000 at 16 years old and I passed.

Have always had old cars, dad was never into it, so I learned everything on my own. Now I am into trucks, have a '49 chevy and a '60 chevy.

I'll be 45 this fall and I have never had a time in my life when I wasn't messing with or around cars. I had the privilege of have a dad that is a lifelong car guy that raised me in a salvage yard/repair shop environment all my growing up years.

Of course seeing the speedo of his 56 Crown Vic glasstop hit close to 140 as a little kid kinda helped with the car-craziness too.:D
