On my 63 Belair with A/C I have a 2006 Toyota Camry dual electric fan set up. You couldn't overheat it if you tried. In this hobby you know many times your going to be stuck in traffic. Sure is nice not to have to look at your water temperature gauge. My 62 Impala wagon with A/C cools just great and can't be overheated with an engine driven fan. Both are viable options and work great. No BFD on using either one. I can't even believe guys are debating the quality of either one. It might be time to get a life and stop separating fly shit from pepper. That will be the day I spend my hard earned money on a Zip's set up to prevent using an electric fan. That thing is way Fuglier then any electric fan. I'd rather spend my money on Go Faster stuff.

I remember seeing electric fans used in Hot Rod Mag way back when. don't recall the year but it was before Dad went to Vietnam in '64.

They weren't these modern fans though. They used two big squirrel cage blowers probably from big GM cars by the looks & they were mounted in front of the radiator.

Of course that wouldn't work on a flat radiator car.

  3. Ok - then ,,,

I'm betting there's not enough idle vacuum to spin a regular steel fan. He's stalling the engine.

What does this ^^^ boil down to then ?

    Not enough idle vacuum
coincides with a real lumpy cam or some shit way out of tune.

.... to spin a regular steel fan insinuates that there is not enough torque produced at idle to spin a fan when coupled with not enough idle vacuum.

    He's stalling the engine

I'm lost here on what you are trying to say about your theory on this problem.

because to me that sounds like you think there's too much drag from the fan & that its stalling the engine. That could be but its not a fan problem at all.

I really don't see how a fan causes "cutting out" at every light anyway.

Yes, they both work, use what ever works best for your appl., just dont post about them here. A traditional hotrod or custom should run mech.
