Ah, the first motor. I remember mine. It ran so good, I took my wife for a ride after it was broke-in and promptly blew the new clutch.:p

Drove it today and it rides nice but I think timing may be one tooth off. It's either that or the hydraulic lifters arent filled yet. Anyone have an opinion

Cool man, being a good engine builder is like playing guitar(everybody cant do it)my half ***ed guess is timing, cause if you have been running it the lifters should already be pumped up.

  10. Your now branded. At 16, 1970, rebuilt my first, a 283, set the distributor in 180 out. Dad stepped in to help. I took him for a ride in my first car, 67' Nova SS, 327 4-spd. I looked at him for approval after running through the gears. He looked at me and said, "You're just like your brother, gotta have that speed". He died in my arms two years later on his 50th birthday. Really miss him but I still have the car though. Thanks for stirring up the memory. Good job! Oh, I had my kids pull their first engine at 16, a 327 out of mom's 68 corvette. Family tradition! Hot rodding will live on!;):)

Thats what I figured because at idle you can't really hear the clicking noise but when you get it up the road you can hear the clicking from the cab
