Do you have too many projects??

I read the editorial in Rod & Custom magazine and it was talking about being
able to maintain your Kustoms and Hot Rods Properly. Talking about guys that
have a lot of projects need garage space to keep them preserved and the work
involved to keep them running properly. This editorial hurt me.

Like a lot of guys on the HAMB I’ve cussed and discussed about the guy that
won’t sell cars because they say “I’m going to fix it up some day.” Sad to say
over the years I’ve turned into that guy. The project that means the most to
me is my ’55 Chevy 4dr sedan. This was my first Kustom and my old High school
car. I still own it and I had planed to let my son drive it too school and he is a
senior and the car is still sitting where I parked it. I parked it because I hit a deer
coming back from a car show. The deer didn’t destroy it but hurt enough to keep me
from driving it. I was going to fix it up but sad to say 14 years have gone buy fast….
My 60 Impala 4 dr hard top has a weak motor and I had planned to replace it with a
crate motor. Well that has only been 3 years ago.

The reason I’m telling you this, even if I had everything going, I would not have a place
to keep them out of the weather. The sad thing, I was in the brain process of buying
another project that some day (never) I would work on. (It is a kool ’57 Buick Wagon)
Being able to plan out a project is one thing but the first thing you ask yourself, where
are you going to do with it when it is done? Do you have a place to store it?

I’m not going to get a lot done this year because I’m going to work towards a garage
that will keep my future projects out of harms way. Boring but maybe I’ll get on the
    right track.

No, my projects are not for sale because I'm going to fix them up some day……….

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

LOL....Duncan and I are going to pick up ONE of my "fix it up someday cars" that has been in storage here and there for nearly 10 years. Same as your Chevy...got rear ended and needs a new rear clip. Gathered the parts and never got around to putting it back together. But, it's my first car, too, and I can't let it go. When I was a kid, I remember reading an article about Sonny Dayout's Dodge and how long it took him to finish it. Being young and dumb, I thought, "how can it take anyone that long to finish a car?" I think it took him something like 10 or 15 years. I've had my '64 Pontiac (the car in question) 25 years this spring and it's further from finished now than it ever has been. LOL.

Ive sold or given away the majority of my projects. I have a panel truck thats getting closer to being done (not HAMB friendly) hopefully by spring. From there Im looking for an older convertible to do, and if I can keep this car/truck monkey off my back that should be it for me. I want to be able to enjoy some cruising time with my honey and our grandkids instead of having a giant project in the works all the time. Hopefully...maybe...course I may run into a good deal...arrrghhhh!!!

HMM this hits a lil too close to home... LOL. Ive been in the process, for a month or so, of selling off some of my cars. I have several. A 1976 Camaro, its got a really high comp engine so i dont wanna drive it because i dont want to use mix (itwas gonna get a daily driver engine but im not going to go to the trouble). A 1973 El Camino, it was gonna be a sleeper with a 496. It never recieved the transplant. I had it towed to my mechanic a year ago (to get the high compression SBC before mentioned) and then i found a deal on a 454 and decided to go that route. But its a small shop, it does the day to day stuff but really only has one guy for engine swaps and hot rod stuff. The begining part of the year my mechanics son got in some trouble with the law so the shop basicly closed while he was dealing with it, for nearly 2 months, then my dad Got a blazer that needed less work so we gave it priority, it took 3 monthes or so, it got paint and body and all. Then i got the camaro and ill probably get it back next week (so i can sell it). I also have the 56 in my avavtar. Im doing all the work on it myself. I also have a Chevy Z71 im trading for a 66 Impala (tranny went out on a test drive so im having it fixed before the trade) And i have my DD Chevy 2500. Im going to axe the El Camino and Camaro(really wanted to keep it, because my dad bought one new in 76 just like it, but the 2 or 3 grand it could bring will go a long way toward the 56) I only have one covered garage slot and it has the 56 ocupying it. So im going to clean out my driveway and line my pockets LOL. I plan on keeping My DD, the impala, and the 56. I'm 22 so i havnt been in the game long, but I have learned so much in 2008 i cant wait to see how much i know at the end of 2009. If ida had the knowledge i have now a year ago. i never woulda started the El Camino or the Camaro, plus my taste in cars have changed alot. I like cruisers more than race cars now. But the Impala will get a healthy mill, it is fun to romp on a ricer occasionally. Plus i plan on getting an Apache to use as a DD so i dont have to drive that big ass 2500 everyday, plus an Apache is alot cooler.
