@Ryan Despite my initial no, if you are jonesing for a change, put a hood on that bad bitch, it’ll let ya know if it wants it.
Ya need to make your self happy, others will like what ya do,an some may not, your the only happy that matters! We each used info we have to do stuff with. Some know of real history about, how this or that!* Some just fell in love with a look,a relatively short time ago* { offten a trendy thing being copyed from other trendy copy cats> but they love it=ya can't point out to them" That's not what we did in the 40s/50/60s,its only a newer trendy way!",, Turns out, they don't even want to know how wrong it looks, for style they were trying for. I say keep telling them anyway or the trendy BS just keeps being copyed.
So I posted those pics because @Ryan PM’d me and asked for some pics of my hood, I assume, based on a complimentary post about it by @ Just Gary. Thanks Gary ! I wasn’t trying to show off or tell anyone how to make a hood or build their cars. Everyone has a different opinion on what looks good and what doesn’t.
To strap or not to strap? Interesting question. The answer is, I think, a bit complicated in that not everyone is willing to do such a thing. However, as it’s @Ryan ’s car it’s his choice. If ideas you seek then you need only look at photos of those vehicles which have such an accessory (?).
It may not be an answer to your question, but Dzus fasteners would have been available at surplus stores after the war, and I think would be a cleaner, more minimal look. If you want something more basic, lunch box style fasteners are another possibility. Leather straps on a car today kind of seem over designed, kind of like ornamentation just for ornamentation's sake and not for function.
... do what makes you happy. its an easy removal if ya hate it... but more importantly... The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same shit.
@Ryan Mock it up. The car will tell you what’s right if you’re tuned to its frequency and willing to listen.
Sorry I'm late to the party, hoping this hood might give you a little inspiration. Simple but well made, skin "doubled over'' to provide extra strength for the latches, also included a picture of some alternatives to leather straps. Best of luck on your project.
