Not really wanting to reveal exactly how good the deal was but i am more interested at the moment in opinions of value? I have had a few offers and know it is worth more than i paid to say the least. Tonight i finally got some time to get it off the trailer and mock it up a little. As it has been left sitting up side down the opposite patches to usual are required. Lucky it was in a dry climate in country nsw.
I just picked up what i believe is an early 30's axle for the 32 maybe. It was cheap but freight is horrendous! Rims, hubs, spindles and axle. I have what i believe are 35 hubs in the shed and they are different to these. Opinions would be much appreciated. It was on a trailer and photos don't show a very good side profile.
I have seen worse and less selling for over 5k!with no chassis here.Chassis depends on many variables including numbers, rust and modifications.Worst photo ever of your axle and drums to try identify it. but once in a lifetime score by the sounds of it. Goodluck whatever path you decide Johnny
I have been offered 15k. It's not something I'm looking to sell but just good to know where I stand before i really get into it. Bad photo of the axle i know. Not me behind the camera.
I can see $15-18K being pretty close to the top of the market for that body and frame as it sits. It's an amazing story and it adds to the value. Hell, it's almost famous being known as the "rubbish deuce" already. Judging by your metal skills on that beat quarter panel you could fix some of the rougher parts of that body, get it rolling and mocked up with some headlights, windshield, etc. and then you'd really be in the money. The guys that build up as-found bodies to the point where they look like hot rods really pull in the payday. That gets folks imaginations goin and they'll spend more. Anyway just an observation. Good luck with it, like I said in a previous post, deuce roadsters don't go undiscovered like this...it's a pretty amazing occurrence. JohnnyA
Spent a little time in the shed today. Mocking up and throwing parts on and just cleaning her up really. Gotta get my AA front cross member soon, just need another excuse to justify the big drive to remove it and bring it back from interstate. I picked up a rear cross member, spring, and beam axle the other week before i got the 32 (thanks Mick).
Thanks for the info on the deuce in terms of monitory value! Always good to know where i sit before i take the skin off my knuckles working on it.
Driver door has straightened up ok. Still needs some tweaking but i think I'll do more of that when i make up the inner skins. I plan on putting louvers in the deck lid. i don't have a louver press so I'm using some old bonnet sides i scrounged. There is alot of work in the deck lid. It is pretty cooked but I'll use what i have, it's a low budget build. As you can see by the photo the upper portions of the cowel have the worst rust. If anyone over here has an upper portion of a cowel they want to sell in Aus please let me know! Pretty much swage upwards would save me days of work!
that s some pretty awesome rubbish , how come when i find rubbish its truly trash and not cool like that lol
Just a tip to make your cool thread even better, hit the Full Image button when you upload pics. Makes it easier on older eyes.
Just keep at it and soon you will have put enough blood and sweat into her that you will never sell her. Your married now. I found my body here in California for 4000$ so as far as what it's worth, I say what ever someone is willing to pay for it. I think there's to many rich guys with deep pockets that have hoarding problems plus eBay that drive the prices way to much up on this stuff. It puts a lot of the younger guys out of the market and it's killing the hotrod history. I say you keep building it till it's done and have some fun in it and down the road there will be someone that just has to have it more than you and that's when you can have a big smile and a big brown paper bag full of money. Good luck and I will be watching. Here's what I started with and where I'm now.
if you get "american pickers" where you live, mike wolfe's '32 was a hell of a lot rougher than yours! good luck on your project...
Congratulations on a great find. Just for curiosity what part of New South Wales? Honestly mate straighten the deck lid out and pay someone to punch the louvers in it for you. It would be less work and a better result, I know you will have to pay someone to punch them but I think it will be money well spent and by the sound of it you will still be in front in terms of money spent.
Thanks for the input on getting a panel put through a louvre press. The deck lid is pretty bad and needs a re-skin and alot of structural work. Most people would say order a repop. But this project isn't about breaking out the cheque book it's about using traditional parts that are available to me, and affordable to me, and the hunt is fun! I am 34 have two young kids and a massive mortgage so there won't be massive dollars spent here. I'm also sorry to say to everyone that has asked i won't be revealing the exact location of where i purchased the roadster or the price so please stop asking.
I've lined up a 39 gear box. Anyone have any input on these heavier truck boxes? Will it work and are they any good. Lower ratios or anything that will impede day to day cruising?
mate that pic is a truck gearbox no good for your application you need passenger car or pickup type ,ive looked at your rear quarter pics those reveals around the wheel arches were the fenders bolt on are so much deeper in shape than them nasty old Brookville ones ,you don't see the difference till you see both together henry ones much nicer ,that being said I have some original ones but if I didn't I would gladly have repros .
Ah ok, thank you. I might give it a miss then and keep on hunting. Interesting though. It's $50 that was part of the appeal. Sent from my SM-N910G using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
