I thought I'd give you all a update Im out !!!! We are leaving in a few months . . . . . . . . . My wife and I ended up having a baby the same month the school opened !!!, so its time to make some changes, we are headed to Atlanta in Jan, Feb. Lived here for a year and a bit, never saw a shoot out, hardly seen any shit. . . . . . we live in a nice neighborhood, . . . . . . . .. but yeah on a whole the city is really fucked up, crazy bombed out buildings, homeless, crackheads, bad roads - worse than any country i've ever been to, also crazy ignorant racism down here which im not down with. I feel good about what we came here for, the school is going really well, there is a huge building full of young intelligent kids that are there everyday learning. . . . . . . . This city can be great for some people and in the time ive been here ive seen it work for some of my friends, but its not for us. Im in the IATSE 478 union down here and im transferring my card to Atlanta - anyone up there in the film industry ? Anyways, i just wanted to give you all a report on the city from someone that moved there post storm and lived it.
Can't say I blame you. I grew up in N.O. and it truly is a toilet, and it was a toilet long before the hurricane. Good luck with your move.
Good luck on the move. Change can always be good if done with a positive approach and a good spirit. Atlanta is a pretty cool city and more cosmopolitan, but to be honest, I am not sure I would expect much better on the racism front, especially once you are a bit outside the city itself. It can be pretty notable there too. But, just don't play that game and you'll be part of making things better for everybody. But at least it isn't all torn to pieces. You probably already know or will, but be sure to check out Athens. That's a cool little town.
as a cajun , westbanker , lesbian trapped in a mans body , native of new orleans its truely the citys loss , they despertly need more folks like yall there , but what the hell i bailed for some of the same reasoned mentioned ... i think its bitchin that yall are leaving the city just a little bit better than you found it , best of luck with the move..
No job is worth moving there, all the stories you hear here are true X10. It was a shit hole trash area before the storm worse now, I know you are young and want to help make a better world but please do it in a safer area, so you can grow old like me.
Ummmmmmm. I've been living here a year and 3 months , my wifes job was worth it. I aint that young either ha ha , thanks for the concern though
it is smart to warn him about the trash that oozes out from every crack in that city.i give them a year,at best. -danny
