I used to have a 1961 in White . That car had to rank as the most FUNN car I ever owned . Problem was getting parts to fix it back in the early seventies ........... scrubba

Welcome from WA. Looks like this is his intro. Some people get very worked up around here about the littlest things. Hang around you'll have a great time and don't let those little things get you down. Watch out for the spelling and grammar nazis.:)

Welcome! I took my drivers test in one just like it, only green. Later did a complete spin on a gravel road and scared the bejesus out of myself. Be careful! Those things have a nasty surprise waiting for you if you get too wild.

Very Nice! You've come to the right place for hanging with experienced gearheads. Feel free to ask all the questions you want....advice is free here.

Welcome! I think I commented on your car on the Corvair Center forum. Looks great! How does it ride on cut coils, and how many did you cut front/rear?

    I'm working on a '63 Monza 2 door ('66 110/4spd) for my wife. I can't wait to drive it. :)

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking Corvair you have there, :)

They really weren't as bad as Ralph made them out to be. I owned 5 of them at one time, one to drive and four for parts. :D That was back when you could pick them up for $ 25, and the one I fixed up was a 64 Spider convertible (Paid $ 25 for it because the push rod tubes leaked oil, smoke would fill the ****pit, and the PO had asthma so he couldn't drive it). Rebuilt the engine in the ba*****t, and drove it for years.

Keep a spare fan belt in the car, that was ultimately what killed mine, it broke and I had to keep driving to get home on a cold, snowy night. The engine was GLOWING red when I got there!

Keep us posted on how yours is coming along.

Had a '64 2 door around 1971 or so. It was pretty much a junkyard recovery. You had to drive with the windows open when the heater was on because of the oil fumes. The clutch cable would stretch more than was allowable in a short time. We'd flip the car on its side, adjust the cable and then drop it back down on all four. That car was one of the most fun cars to drive that I ever owned

Yep, it is always the pushrod tube seals. Oil drips down on the exhaust manifolds and the fumes come in the heater tubes. Leaves an oily taste in your mouth. :D

Thanks guys i appreciate the comments! I can tell corvairs were popular back in the day, theirs always people coming up to me telling me stories when they had one hah! yes i do have some pics on corvair center haha. i cut 2.5 coils in the front, and 2 coils in the rear ,but it sits lower then the pic. in the pic i have 2 cut coils in the front, and 1 in the back. it doesnt ride bad at all for being low, and cut coils. i also added kyb gas adjust shock on the front so it wont bottom out. they help a lot! i just need to get some for the rear

Welcome from WV, nice ride, with it low like that, with the roof line it has that early impala/ cutl*** look, SWEET, if you can't find the spyder caps then some long lug nuts that look like 59' caddy tail lights would be cool, we have a vender that has them, probably find them in Cali as well.

They're called "chrome bullet lug nuts". You can find them at most swaps or online, but not likely at your local parts store. I'm running them on my Corvair. :)

I did the same. Shocks are a lot cheaper at RockAuto.com than at most other retailers.
