Hey 37kid. Sometimes I wish I had your patience or lack of drive or procrastination or whatever it is. I am the kind of guy that wakes up with a to-do list that will determine if my day is succesful or not. If I even doubt I can finish something I won't ever consider starting on it but once I do better get out of the way because now I've signed in blood to make it happen. Anyway I've enjoyed reading this post as it is an insight into another mind totally unlike mine. My wife says my epitath will read "He almost finished".:)

Thanks, I've always been amazed by people that have goals and the ability to hire people to attain those goals, Roger Penske, Rick Hendrick come to mind. At 72 I look back and wonder how things may have changed if I had a goal of making money, making a pile, THEN getting into cars.

Wonder if I'll find a needed part at Hershey that will get me moving on this project? Stop by C4J-39-42 and say Hello, you can leave heavy parts there for the day . Bob

Dad would have been 108 years old today, he passed away 40 years ago and his Roadster has been parked ever since. Shot some Kroil in the spark plugs today, if they come out more Kroil goes in to hopefully lube the rings and free things up. Maybe 2024 is the year it runs again. His Roadster body and mine were both found in town on Gilbert Street. His was in dark gray primer with a metallic bronze painted underside, that is still there, a Hot Rod that was never finished. I think of Dad every day, maybe I'll spend some time finishing up the work table for my body today.

Thanks Ron, It would be perfect for runs to the post office. Found this cast iron bit under the bench I cleaned off today, think it is RR, the rail bookends fit perfectly. What is it called and what was the purpose?

Before, during, and after. Found a few odds & ends I hadn't seen in years. Now I need to find storage for the stuff I moved around and off the table. Nothing got thrown out other than three dust pans of saw dust and wood scrap that feed the wood stove.

It certainly looks like a riser for railroad track. During my 30 plus years on the railroad I don't recall ever seeing anything like it.

Sure, Those wires have been there since it last ran, but there is no guarantee they work. Frustration and fear, plus the other projects keep Dad's Roadster in place.

It took me 2 days but I got through this from the beginning. It covers a wide swath of Americana. Good to know there is a build thread here older and as rambling as mine. Many similarities with the fight for space in the mess and clearing a spot by covering another. The connection of long held parts and childhood treasures to our lives and families. A good read. Thanks. Many won't see that even the wildest ramblings are in fact related to the build. The main difference is that the things clogging your work space seem to be worth something. Mine is mostly crap no one else wants but I still can not throw it away.:( :D

Thanks Six Ball, Having the Roadster project is a part of my life, just realized my oldest Grandson is the same age I was when I found the body, hope he gets to finish it. My goal is to have the body together and in ready to paint primer with the doors and trunk lid fit. Hope I have another 20 years to accomplish that.

I'm trying to remember when I got my roadster body. It must be over 30 years ago after see it sitting for several years before that. I still have the Lionel train Santa brought when I was 8 in 1953. The engine & cars are still in what is left of their boxes. I also bought my first gun that year., a second hand 22 Stevens single shot for 10 hard earned dollars. I hope to make my roadster a driver before I run out of road to drive it on. Hope my grandsons will help and maybe want it when it's their turn. They are 10 & 8.
Keep at it I am enjoying your discoveries. I'm finding parts and pierces I forgot I had. If they are for the roadster I'm hanging them on pegboard above the mess so they don't get lost again. If they are for the other projects they may have to fend for themselves.
On with my shop cleaning & Chevy wood building.

DSCF7351.JPG DSCF7352.JPG DSCF7353.JPG I forget what years Santa dropped off my Lionel sets, still have one box. I do remember the smell of the controller leaking all the smoke out. Wonder what it costs to rebuild them? Last time they ran would have been the very end of 1966.

I never got to have a setup, always had to put it away after a few days in the living room. Even when working right there was an electrical smell. When we moved from Texas to California when I was 14 the previous owners of our house left a little newer version in the same set in the garage. My mom made me give it to my cousins, he sister's kids. They soon destroyed it by dead ending the track into a wall and hitting it at full speed until it wouldn't do it any more. Also when we go there my big brother who had moved to CA the year before had already bought a '38 Ford coupe for me. ($15) He had a '39 Standard coupe he and I had driven from Texas the summer before. He was barely 18 I was barely 13. What a trip!

Bob, I am available (and can likely gather a couple more willing guys) to come down to help for a day. Always fun piecing together an old hot rod body or getting an old car running again! Just say the word

  29. Bob,
If I were closer, I'd get the diesel and missile launcher going for you (I grew up with toy trains, too- Dad was really into early tinplate), but it doesn't take alot. Get a can of electric cleaner, some q-tips, and go through the motors... if you need more, just send me a pm- sorry I haven't been around much... this school year/crop of 6th graders (who missed most of 2nd and 3rd grade) are kickin' my BUTT!
