  2. Is Rodney doing what it looks like he's doing? Of course, the rest room is probably around back with a quarter moon in the door

We just got into Irwindale. We went by Don's shop to check it out and to do some repairs on the right front brake of Don's coupe. He has a very cool '32 roadster that he is working on. We are going to go eat and then to the hotel. The good stuff is in the morning at the California Speedway!!!

    Hey LP
How goes the battle. Kick there a** and feed them to the dogs.
See you when you get back. bring all the pics to work!!!

  19. Thanks a lot for the great pics, wish I was in town last week to meet you guys, instead of sitting in a hotel room in Albuquerque.

This is a great story and photos to go along with it, keep up the good work, and kick some butt in the driving competitions going on today!

We are back to our hotel room from the race track. What a BLAST! First we did the cornering test. Cones were set up 70' apart. You drove through the cones as fast as you could without knocking one over. Big fun. Then we did the brake test. We had to get up to a speed of 65 mph and then stop as fast as we could. The stopping distance was measured from the cones to the front of the car... And yes, I lost that one by a LONG way!! Then it was to the drag strip. Willy went first, then Herman, Ross, Don, me and then Bob.

The track was way slick. All of the cars were not getting any traction, and you could hear the tires start to spin as each car hit second gear. Don's first run was a wild ride. As the car shifted to second gear, the car turned to the left. Don was right on top of it steering his coupe the other way. The car went left to right a couple of times and started going side to side. Don's car hit the wall on the right front first and then the back fender did as well. Don is ok and in good sprits. He says "shit happens". He bent up his front fender and scraped the paint on the rear. The tie rod was bent in the accident and was rubbing on the crank pulley.

After the drag strip, we had a tour of the So-Cal speed shop. It's a cool place. Metal working machines, machine tools, hot rods, hot rod parts... you name it, it was there. We got to see a few secret projects that the shop is working on. We were not allowed to take pictures in that room. Don was able to put some repairs on the coupe there. Now we are just sitting at the Hotel recharging our batteries. Tuesday we have a private tour of the NHRA museum, and then they announce the winner. Then it's on the way back home. We will stop overnight in Vegas.

WOW! [IMG] sounds like a wild ride for Don. Glad to hear that he's OK and the coupe was "repairable" today. Thanks for the update. I've been looking forward to your posts every day while you guys are away.

You gonna fill us in on the "winner" once you guys know??? [IMG]

  23. Kris, Thanks for keeping us informed. Keep updating it until you get home. This is way better than reading about it later in R&C.
