Hey guys... I'll be away for a bit if you are wondering why my comments have seemed to stop. I'm on my way to Samoa for a few months to help out. I install and maintain power lines for a living and have also taught the trade for the past 10 years down there. I had two of my students come here two years ago and land positions here with local utilities. I'll be returning there with them. So I have some bonds with the people there. I'm hoping two months will be enough help for them. Take care guys! Talk to you later.
What? They don't have internet in Samoa? Bet they do! We'll look forward to a note or two from you while you're gone. You're not gonna get away that easily! Travel safe, Geno. We'll look forward to your return.
Eric's right- a cousin of a buddy of mine who knows a guy at Microsoft says they got that internet thing down there a coupla months ago or something... All kidding aside, travel safe. I commend you on such acts of selflessness. Keep us posted when you get a chance and let us know if you need anything.
If you get a chance, check out some of the Army equipment over there, no doubt you'll not have to look too hard to see it. Part of my job with Uncle Sam is managing some construction equipment rebuild contracts for the Army. We recently sent several Case bucket loaders to Samoa and they'll likely be very busy.
Thanks guys. I'm leaving early thursday morning with my three Samoans from Portland to Hawaii and then to Samoa (about 13 hours of seat time). We are hooking up with a crew from Hawaii that has sent bucket trucks and equipment over there as I write. I'll have internet if we can get power distributed to where we are staying. There are still 'pill boxes' on the shores and canons still in the mountains from WW2. Very interesting.... I am on the National Joint Appreticeship Training Council as a board member and the four of us going will represent 3 major power utilities located here in Lane County, Oregon as well and the JATC. My postion will be as a safety/foreman/supervisor directing the crew on their work. If our work is not available we will be doing cleanup and delivering water or something fairly useful. I'll keep you all posted with pics if I can get online.
