I worked on the 39 all day today and I'm even more pleased with it. I pulled all the drums and had them measured. The biggest one was 12.010. That's unbelievable for 90k miles. It has all new cyl and shoes. Who ever owned this took great care of it. I had the carb rebuilt by a guy thats been doin it for over 50 yrs, and it's running great. I was going to hot rod it but it drives so nice I might just leave it alone. I am putting dual Smitty's on her in the next couple days. I have the back gl*** out getting some new ones cut. Here's a few pics.
Sweet car Gene, and in Akron no less ! (I'm in Cleveland) I'm thinking you have the "All day grin and wake up Giggling" going on. Smittys will sound cool. Go ahead, hot rod it a bit. I trust your judgement. All the best, Dale Cleveland OH
Sounds good to me. Maybe if it was mine I may drop the snout a bit but if you like it like that cruise on buddy.
If I do anything it will be to lower the front. I really liked the stance on my 36. I may duplicate that.
Beautiful. Make sure you get the 22 inch Smithys, they're quieter than you might expect.. I would have a hard time doing anything but a nice tasteful lowering job. If it were mine I would leave the front how it is, and lower the back about 2 or 3 inches. Then put teardrop skirts on it and dual appleton spots and call it done. mmmm....
Wow! There is definitely something about basic shiney black hotrod that makes the world a better place. I little drop in the front for a touch of at***ude and its good for 50 thousand smiles.
even though it took your guy over 50 years to rebuild the carb, it was worth the wait. beautiful car man!
