Just got back from taking the kid out for a snowball. I just parked the car walked around to her side to help her out and closed the door behind her. My side window now has a crack that runs the entire width of the gl***. I didn't even slam the door.

Guess I have an excuse to tear that door apart now and replace the window channel, I just wish it hadn't happened now.

I hate it when I do that!...too. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Sounds like you know why it broke...like gl*** hiting metal instead of that fuzzy stuff thats supposed to be in th channel?
Anyway, figure out what caused it to break or it'll do it again... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Yea.. the window channel is pretty shot. I replaced the drivers side which was actually worse. I was expecting for it to be a few hours worth of work and it ended being more like an entire day. I already have the window channel but I wasn't motivated to tear the other door apart knowing what a chore it was. In any event, it needed to be done and all the gl*** on the car is old and needs to be replaced. No big deal I suppose...

I know the feeling well - last fall I replaced the p***enger door window channels, felts, seals, etc on my truck. The drivers side? It's still original! To make mine just a tad bit worse, it was a cobbled together bunch of unoriginal bits, so it was a true weekend affair to get the p***enger side done!

You want bad luck with door gl***?? I was walkin to my truck one nice summer morning, when I happened to scuff my foot on the ground and proceeded to fire the tiniest pebble right through the drivers door window. Watched the window shatter and fall all over the place. Damn I was mad.

I managed to blast a rock through my back window with the lawnmower last summer. Probably the only rock in the whole damned yard and it managed to hit the gl*** dead center...

At least you closed the door and not your Daughter. Parents have disowned their kids for less.
Good luck with the repair... do they make clear duct tape???

Always make side gl*** from toughened gl*** and not laminated gl*** then you won't have the problem again.Ok so you have to take a pattern to the local gl*** merchant they then cut it and send it away but 2 weeks later you got nice new gl*** that won't crack ever. The only way it will break is if someone breaks into your car,or sommit real hard hits it..............Marq

Last year I was swinging a broom around and it hit the edge of my garage door.....
The head blew off and went right into the middle of my Fairlane windshield....

$50 and 3 hours later, I had the windshield replaced. BUT, I am STILL kicking myself for doing that! [IMG] [IMG]

When I was younger,( now that was 40 years ago mind you. I remember seeing many cars during the summer months with the rear gl*** totally cracked into millions of pieces but staying intact. We always thought it was from the extreme heat inside the car. You don't see much of that anymore.

You know, I was just about to mention something about that.
The rear door windows in my car are both cracked but intact. It's sat outside in a couple of torrential downpours with no leaks, so you may be able to squeak by for a while until you get a chance to fix it.

    That still ****s though.

You have roll up windows? Your a lucky gal..... I bet you even have a top huh? [IMG]

Quite a few years ago I was at the NSRA show in Springfield, MO in my '47 Ford convert and closed my drivers door and the gl*** shattered. Was a nice 12 hour ride home in the rain with no window. I was a "goldchainer" then with a nice interior and everything. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
