I'm stumped ! What did I find?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mastergun1980, Apr 5, 2012.

  1. Essex is my call there is one in my area and has all the same body details. When I move my '29 Dodge in that state I would guess it was about 800 lbs. , to move it you could a sliegh with two 6x6s and drag it with an atv where you could get at it with a truck. Rob

    .

Looks like a '27 or '28 Hudson (Essex twin brother).

Here's a dash from a '27 Hudson which is identical to your pics.
However, the body reveal looks more like a '28 Hudson of maybe a late '27 if there was such a thing.

For what it's worth, the frame is very light and weighs in at less than 100 pounds with springs.
The body with fenders would be in the 4 to 500 pound range Maximum.
You should be able to rock or lift one side by yourself if it's not stuck in the clay and
that will help you judge total weight.
-There is defiantly not enough steel there to be more than 550 pounds.

Sometimes the easiest way to drag a shell out is with a home made skid.
-Using 2x6's laid flat, bolt or heavily screw 3 or 4 2x6 crossmembers across/atop the 6" wide "skids".
2 guys can easily pull the skid if the terrain isn't all up hill as the 6" wide boards will slide nicely over most terrain. You can angle cut the leading edge of the 6" wide boards to help them slide up and over obstacles rather than digging into the landscape. I've skidded similiar bodies out by myself but it makes for a long hard day, this was back before the days of quads.

I have a bunch of instrument clusters/bezels/parts for '27 Hudsons if you are looking to fill that hole just keep in mind that shipping from Canada is ridiculous.

Essex frames are F'ing heavy compaired to model a, they are longer and have a kickup, best bet would be to cut the spring perches with a o/a torch, unbolt the body and frame, and cut the body in half and carry it out in 3 loads, frame and 2 halves of the body, easy stuff, i did that with a '28 essex

It's a '27. In '28 they added a reveal on the cowl from the door to the firewall.

Great save! Nice to see another Essex rescued.

He does. Quite often. I don't like him.

Not one bit but if you send over that '52 Pontiac or that '62 Olds then that opinion could change pretty quickly.
