I've always looked at these era Fords from afar, having had no hands on exposure to them. But I do love the styling on the '57's. There was a drag racer in southern Cal in the 80's that had a wicked one with FE power and then a SOHC. The thing just had a menacing presence. Anyway, every time I see one in real life, I think, I could own one, with one exception. I just think they missed the mark with the headlight surrounds. All that style and flash and total welfare around the headlights. I have seen some guys come up with some nice looking brightwork, but I don't know what from. So, what's out there that's an easy nice fix that looks natural? Thx.

  6. My second ever car I owned was a base model 57 Meteor 2-door sedan. The car was pulled out of the forests of the BC interior way back when. Well, my dad decided it was "way to big of a project" and forced me to get rid of it, by means of trading it to a con artist for a 55 Ford Customline 4-door. I never got over losing that 57, but when you're 15 you go with your parents direction.

If you add that experience with multiple reruns of Thunder Road, yeah 57 Fords are my favorite!!

    Hello,

Those chrome “thingys” I believe are called “Stone Shields.” They are supposed to protech the front of the rear tire opening and the rear of the larger front wheel openings. When we looked at a lot of used cars, the one area that was behind the front wheel got a lot of small dinky stone chips. The front edge… none. As the tire spins, it is obvious where the chips from road grime goes…

It may not have been awareness, but to teenage hot rod folks, we inspected each car thoroughly and noticed the chips on the paint. Sometimes, it required the whole fender paint to repair, but the matching was going to be difficult. So, another used car was selected in the next area of choices. YRMV

As for the back, smaller “Stone Shields,” they still get the stones flying past the front opening and hit the front of the rear opening, too.

The color of the yellow had to be enlarged and altered to get the right image. The other ford sedan had a better background to see the “Stone Shields” clearly.

No offense for @jimmy six as night time photo are difficult to get clear, unless a flash fill is used. Then, the flash offends the spectators… so there is that.

The other photo is a climate controlled interior shot with lighting to emphasize the aspects of the car shown. Different strokes for different folks…

    The complete "stone shields."
