Customs Impala steering wheel on a Ford?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mitchell de Moor, May 27, 2011.

  1. Will a 1958 Impala steering wheel fit on a 1956 Ford column? Thanks!

Don't think so . The columns on the Ford were keyed .

  4. Okay, so what do you think I would need to do to make it work? I have a T-5 in the car now and wanted to put an AOD in it. So I was going to put an automatic column in. Could I maybe put a Chevy column in the car???

And you don't want a Ford column in it because? If it's because you like the Impala wheel your best bet is to swap to an Ididit column which can be had with Chevy splines and will work with the AOD.Or check out www.wurthitdesigns.com and do the rack and pinion and column swap all at once the pictures on the site will give you a good idea what's involved and the"deadly spear" will go bye, bye.

Might be worth asking 'grits' on here as I seem to remember he was asking a similar question during his coupe build.

  7. splice the upper part of the chevy inner shaft to the Ford shaft
