Our car club,Tri-City Rod & Custom is celebrating the 45th anniversary this year and we had a picnic for the current membership this past weekend.

We reserved a large shelter and the name on the reservation posted at shelter number 1 had us going . :) HRP

Maybe the sign painter doesn't like his town or maybe he doesn't like hot rods. Most likely, he works for the local government that controls the shelter and is just incompetent.

Hmmm, yeah. 'Communication'...or, passing along info as accurately and concisely as possible.

I call my retirement biz 'Atwater Speed & Sport', for its diverse interest. Kinda catchy, until I drew out a quick logo...
    Just looked like ASS!

hope that the club cleaned up after using the facility - likely a brain fart of whoever printed sign and no one proof read it. post some pics of get-together

I left the house early Saturday morning to drive across the river to Georgia to pick up one of our oldest members that is now in a****isted living facility and helping get him in and out and situated I forget the camera,I saw Brenda playing with her new phone so she may have took a few photos.

I am the President of our club and yeah,I can guess who gets railroaded to head up club functions. HRP

We talked a lot about the club and membership over the past 45 years.

Gary is the only original member that was sitting at the table when the local guys met for the first time and established a charter & the majority of the members have been active 40 years or more,we have a few that have moved to the area and are new but just as important.

We have helped each other work on cars or helped build shops to work on cars.

We have watched each others children grow up and get married and have children of their own.

At one time we were the only club putting on car shows, both indoor and outdoor but there are so many clubs around now we let them do that,I guess we are more a social club today.

I honestly believe our friendships come first and all the wives and girlfriends get along.

The only problem I see with the club is even with the addition of a few newer members in the last couple of years the members are 6o or older,we are a bunch of old farts.

We have had a least 150 members over the years, some people joined because it was the flavor of the month and the next interest that came along they were gone, others moved or just lost interest and others like the some of the original charter members have passed away.

It's ironic that all the children that grew up riding in the back seats of our hot rods & customs have no interest in the old cars,Gary's son is into drag racing but that's it.

Things have changed, our newsletter is in the form of e-mail instead of being sent via snail mail and along with where & when the next meeting will be, parts for sale may include a desert recipe.

The guys are the kind of people that if you need help all you need to do is call. HRP

Sounds like a nice group of friends. And if you have that friendship, you don't need a club. My dad never went to church. When he was asked why once, he said something like, "If you don't screw anyone over, you'll never need forgiveness."

One of the correlaries to Murphy's Law is " no name, no matter how simple, can be correctly understood over the phone".....:D

The important thing is, your event went well....:).

don't get a spot at Paris Mountain State Park or your club will become the Tampax Knights if the same guy makes the sign.

I opted out of a club that has the same longevity but how that happened I,ll never understand. Retired guys that dont participate in any local events, just****** and whine at meetings and are not welcoming to younger guys or ideas.Same guys as officials, cant agree on anything and change the rules to suit themselves. I would love to be part of a club like back in the 40s-50s that were there for the cars and to help each other out. Not gonna happen.

Your right,I have seen several clubs run along for years with no problems and out of the clear blue something happens and the club goes down in flames.

I am well aware you have to invest time at making it work and you can't become complacent, sure we have had arguments and disagreements but we are still friends first.

We always include our wives and girlfriends in our activities but not in our club meetings,we are old farts that sometimes act like a bunch of juvenile delinquents and the spouses know it and let us play. HRP

Well the women are another point. Snobby clicky BS my wife does not take part in. She cuts hair all day and meets with a wide variety of personalities. She has pretty thick skin and can hold her own,she can spot balony from miles away. The club group was a group all to itself! When its not fun anymore then its time to move on.

Tri City-Shmi City....I'll bet there are at least 10 Tri City car clubs in the U.S. but if you guys switch your name to Trash City Car Club, I'll bet you'd be the only ones! I like it! But not as much as my club name....The Pile Drivers CC.
Has enough connotations to make a guy scratch his head.
