Dave is the Official HAMB tranny builder... He's been building trannies since most of us were in diapers and is pretty much all knowing. How can he help you?
Hey Ryan, if you go with the C4, Please do yourself a favor, and make sure to get the proper information of the engine crank your going to use, and what year tranny it actually is. 1. older small block fords use the larger balance weight on the flex plate (50oz vs 28oz) to match up with the lighter crank in the block. 2. and what size/age the tranny is(difficult when you DON'T know what the tranny really came out of). There is not a lot of choices, but it can be a problem getting the correct flexplate (157 vs 164 tooth) with the correct balance weight (50oz vs 28oz). The balance weight is concerned with what crank your engine uses, the number tooth flex plate is concerned with the size of your bell housing. 3. Figure you have to mate it to the proper torque converter. Just count the teeth, and call JEGS, that was the easy part. 4. Then it all must be under the correct bell housing (yes they are different) (164 vs 157 tooth). 5. Dont forget the spacer plate that sandwhiches between the tranny and the block. Its not that big of a deal, once you actually know what all your choices are and get the correct information. But as usual, Im learning the hard way, and will be pulling my engine out the 35 yet again, after trying to bolt the starter up a few weeks ago. I have to get the smaller bell housing now, I hope I got the right one this time. Oh yeah, there is a internal shaft youll also need , its about 12" long and splined on each end(I forget what its called). But it goes into the back of the torque converter to the shaft inside the tranny. Perhaps someone on here can be more insightful, as I am learning this all trial and error. So, anyone feel free to correct any mistakes I made here. Hope this helps.
