I always thought the 40 Ford made for a better Hotrod than a Custom. Although, I have seen some great Carson topped Customs.

Thanks for noticing the OP never said what kind of '40 he was talking about. That one's a Willys ;) but I think a lot of people are assuming Ford.

If you're referring to 40 Ford coupes I don't think the bodies could ever be improved on, perfect as is. Only improvement could be through different styles of stances.

I prefer the stock lines, so I'm not a fan of chopped tops, or customs. But that's where it ends for me. I love hotrods, so stance, tires and wheels, hopped up or swapped motors, all appeal to me. 100% stock is boring to me.

This is a real 40 Ford Hot Rod ... 100% street legal and driven and ran the 1/8 mile in low 6 second times .... from 1972.... my friend Jim "Jesse James" Carter still owns the car since the 60's.

I'm still driving this thing. Hoodless hot rod? Or add the hood, caps, level and call it a custom? PM.jpg

I’ve been waiting a long time for this one! Had a 40 coupe when I was 15 and never finished it.
Roll the clock forward to 72 years old , and this is mine after a year and a half of work. IMG_3906.JPG IMG_3991.JPG IMG_4031.JPG
