I have been driving since I was twelve years old. I learned how to drive by playing the seated Spyhunter arcade game. Fast FWD 24 years later and here I am, everywhere seems to be about 45 minutes from me. Friends and family say I am nut and drive to fast. I thought that because of the way I learned to drive was the reason everyone said this. I mean how many people actually learned to drive like that? For the record, I have 0 tickets, citations, write-ups or what have you of any kind when it comes to driving. My Grandfather passed two years ago and it was during this time I found out something interesting. Gramps was a local drag racer! The people we talked to said "oh I remember Cruz and his loud fast cars." We uncovered close to 40 bills of sale for cars in the 40's and 50's sold to Gramps. I remembered my Gamma saying that her family hated seeing the dirt trail kick up when he was racing through the ranch to see her. Anyways, some of the paperwork showed him owning '29 ford coupe, '31 Plymouth coupe, '48 fleetmaster and so on...amazing! I only wish there would have been a way for him to store these and pass them on. Hahaha. Once when I was in high school I had stayed the night at my grandparents place and we forgot somehow that Monday was school. So he gets in the car and in 20 minutes he has me from the top of Goleta to mid town Ventura(For anyone who knows this area you know the time it takes to travel from point a to b). Found out his Chevy 66 four door had a 409 in place of the stock engine. Now I know why he always freaked out about over heating in traffic! Now it all is perfectly clear. It was not my "simulated driving teacher" that has me driving like a bat out of hell. It is my DNA, in my blood. That is there is OCTANE in my blood thank to my Gramps. Just wanted to share this as I am sure a lot of you come from the same stock of people.
It seems that is the case with a lot of us here. Just in the blood and I am very thankful for it on this Thanksgiving Day. Welcome to the HAMB to.....
