Does anyone know where I can find new stock-length spindles for a '53 Bel Air with stock front end? I was doing a front disc conversion, and was having trouble getting the outer bearing on when I found a groove that was worn by the old bearing. It left a high spot on the spindle that I was able to file down just to get it together to roll back into my garage, but I don't trust using that spindle. All I can find online are drop spindles, but I already have a 3" lowering kit. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!!! Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk
Probably need to find some used ones, stock spindles generally aren't reproduced...because they make modified designs, then the folks who buy the new ones, have good used original spindles to sell. If the wear is minimal, only a few thousandths of an inch, it will probably be fine. But you didn't post pictures, so we can't tell if it's something to be worried about, or not. also, 49-54 use the same spindle, which helps you broaden your search
I didn't get pics because by the time we got to that point, it was dark and we were ready to call it a night. The groove is deeper than I'd be comfortable with...I didn't measure it, but it's more than a minor scuff. I found these (http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-1949-54-Chevy-Car-Modified-Spindles-Only,3302.html), which look like the stock spindle (if I'm remembering it correctly), but the description is throwing me off. They make it sound like they are an improved version of the stock spindle, but then they say it bolts up to a Mustang II IFS. Can anyone clarify this? Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk
It is true that 49-54 will "interchange", but the spindle on 53-54 is located HIGHER up on the knuckle than on 49-52; there's one inch difference. Should be plenty out there with all the M-II swaps, and front clips getting done. Try that auction site we all know and love. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
The Speedway spindles fit Mustang II disc brakes, the ends are not the original design...the original brakes won't fit, and brakes that were designed to fit on stock spindles won't fit. At least that's how I understand it. I have those same spindles on my car....
Yup, spoke to Speedway, and you are correct. These are machined shorter and with different tapers than stock. Ugh...back to the drawing board. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk
Put a "wanted" ad in the cl***ifieds here. Lots of guys sitting on parts and parts cars. Post some spindle pix, it may not be as bad as you think.
