It seems that my truck has been a constant revolving door of doing stuff to it and then pushing it outside for a look at all of the various locations I have resided at. The first picture was it's first public debut at the Cow Palace in 2007 after grinding for 2 months straight during the holiday season. It had no wiring but it was pushed out of the garage onto the trailer and then pushed in under the lights.
Great job! The only detail I'd add is "You crouch down and feel every bit of gravel in your right knee as you twist and scan for the perfect angle."
What a cool visual, @J.Ukrop !! That was my full anticipation as I chased the ignition gremlin on my '57 F-100. This was January of this past year. In March, @Pist-n-Broke then suggested I get the engine to #1 to top dead center, look at where the rotor was pointing. Turns out, the dizzy was off by a couple of teeth!! I reran the wires, added some starting fluid and it fired up and ran like a sewing machine!! I have been driving Miles daily since!
I remember it like it was 8 years ago…I was broke and running used tires that already had dirt on them. Great write up, it helped me visualize my memory
Yup, is a hell of a rush when you get them out for the first time, drive, and start working out the bugs. Almost as good as sex.
Not in the street yet, but the 4-71 is on it, and the windshield is wrapping up nicely. I will wake up The Terrace when it is out.
Coming up on 27 years ago, I drove the Roadster out of the the shop, and 2-1/2 miles down the road to the Mountaindale Store.
Huge day and first fire and drive....yes and to think this was 26 years ago....I won't say how many years to build the stinking retaining wall either
Thought of this oldie.........in the late 70's, a friend of mine was building a T-bucket, hot sbc/4speed, middle of December, freezing cold, he calls me and says I'm coming over, were going for a ride, I'll be there in five minutes, about three minutes later I hear the unmistakable sound of open headers, he pulls in the driveway at high idle, no windshield, no seats, just two milk crates, wild fun ensued. Oh to be young again!
I think you’ve got a point. The driveway is cool but there’s just “something” about the first time you see it on the street.
Hello, When my brother and I finished getting the 671 on the new 292 c.i. SBC motor, we knew we had something going on here. It took a while to get the whole motor completely ready and installed. The rumble of the motor/supercharger, the sound of the exhaust made a giant smile on my brother’s face. It had been several months of daily after school working hours on the Willys coupe. The new motor had to be put together piece by piece. The chassis and body work was already completed. So, it was the new build motor that was impressive. The day we were ready, my brother told me to open the hood and check the plug wires by grabbing each one and making sure they were snug. So, by the time I got to the driver’s side, he turn on the ignition/motor and the magneto sent a powerful shock to my right arm and it came flying out of the raised hood. Funny, but not so funny. He was smiling all the way… The little neighbor girl that always was at our house, came out to see what the big boys were doing. When my brother started the motor, she screamed and ran back to the kitchen yelling for our mom… The rumble was frightening to her and our mom was not happy. But, we had already started backing up out of the workspace in front of our backyard garage. To us, the loud powerful motor was music to our ears. Jnaki When we got to the street, my brother gently started forward in first gear. As we got down the street, we could both feel the surging power ready for more action. My brother was smart. Our mom was already mad that we scared the little toddler and so, we went down a few blocks before he stomped on the motor. What a rush. It certainly felt more powerful than the modified Impala and we took off down the empty street. Although it was late March, early April, the sun was out and the blue sky of So Cal called for us to drive around stomping on the gas pedal. What a new experience! The small interior Moon Gas Tank allowed us to drive to the nearest gas station on our route, about 6 miles away. ..YRMV The new Isky-Gilmer Belt Drive on an Edlebrock manifold. Within a week, we were at the drags for the new experience. Yes, we were already at Lion's Dragstrip with the same car and a 6 Stromberg SBC 283 motor. But, this time, it was a different experience and the new 671 powered blower spec, 292 c.i. SBC motor made the difference.
I did manage to convince the owner that it needs baffles in the lake headers. My ears are STILL ringing.
