I am just curious to hear from some of ya'll on this Question that pops up from time to time. In your opinion, where is the cut-off date or year I guess when it comes to old cars and trucks as being called, Classic, Hotrod, Rat Rod, Etc.? I was somewhat thinking that whoever I was talking to, I would assume that it was probably in their minds that an old car or truck maybe a few years ahead of what they rode in as a Kid would be the cutoff year. For example, one of my friends always says that anything made after Kennedy was Shot is too NEW. But another friend that I have who is younger than me considers 20`s thru 40`s as being the only years for a genuine HotRod or RatRod. I do not argue with them on the Topic one way or the other as I respect their views.... I just listen as to why they think the way they do. I am very partial to the 50's and 60's cars and trucks myself and they know this. That is what I grew up seeing and was around through my family & friends that had Hotrods themselves in those years when I was growing up. Now I know that there are plenty of good Ole Hotrods in the 70's and 80's, but to me, they just just don't do it for me when it comes to calling them, RATROD. Computers in the cars and trucks of today are nice, but I have a hard time understanding them and I really don't want to either. I would much rather be able to fix something that I can see and hear, as to be wondering about some kind of "BOX" or "CHIP". Anyway, let me know what ya'll think I am just curious and although I am getting old, I am young enough and I am still trying to learn "New Tricks" although sometimes they seem to be pretty stupid.

I am curious to know why you pick the years that ya'll have chosen. Is it because of your Age? Designs? Affordable? If you have chosen..AGE I will not tell anybody! HA! HA!

64 is the cutoff hear but I like'em from the 20's to the mid 60's to late 60's. For me anything newer than the late 50's I'd call a muscle car I guess and before that a hot rod.

For me, old cars end in 1974 with the last GTO, Challenger, and Cuda. I might make an exception for the Smokey and the Bandit style T/A's, but that's it. Everything else is late model.

i think when the whole muscle cars started kicking in. theres an accasional 60's cars that look real good, but as soon as the 70's hit, things lost the looks. as far as RATROD(?) i think that date never exsisted. hotrods are normally pre 55 and customs are pre 70's. theres always some that stand out, but thats just what ive seen.

    Shouldn't "ya'll" be spelled y'all?

It is a contraction for the two words "you" and "all".

In contractions, the apostrophe denotes omitted letters as in the following samples....

    can not = can't
    does not = doesn't
    is not = isn't
    will not = won't....

Well shit. There goes that theory.

    Ya'll keep ya'lling. I'm gonna be over here y'all.

This is the way I see it.
Anything with rear fenders instead of Quarter panels is a Hotrod
Anything from about 1950 to 1959 is a Custom
1960 to 1970 or so is a muscle car.
    Anything after that is Crap!
