I recently bought a truck with a three speed floor shifter and by my research the shift pattern I supposed to be R -2 1- 3 But my 1st gear and reverse have been swapped how can I remedy this? Sent from my Pixel 3 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The R & 1 shift lever on the transmission is on upside down. Turn it over and adjust the rod to make sure it and the shifter are both in neutral at the same time.
In 1969 I put a used Hurst Syncro-Loc shifter in my 61 Impala, not sure what it was meant for but the levers would not clear the floorpan so reversed them, on the first test drive I had quite a rude awakening trying to back out of the driveway. Never really liked the shift pattern but I got used to it.
Years ago the owner of the Mobil station I worked for was the go to service guy for the Studebaker Lark that the local nuns drove. It had a 3 on the tree. Finally the column shifting mechanism gave up the ghost. My roommate and I spend hours trying to get a floor shift to work to replace the column shifter. When all was said and done the only way we could make it work was to reverse the first/reverse arm. We painted the "new" pattern on the floor next to the shifter and the nuns were none the wiser. They could once again use the car to carry out God's work and the boss didn't charge them anything. Guess he was trying to make up for all the other customers he overcharged but that's another story .
