Wow, just came from an incredible yard sale here in Boston area. Family of a recently passed serious car guy selling his stuff, adds on Craigs list sounded unbelievable but they were not, they were for real. Anyone in the area should get down there today. Tons of 64 Falcon stuff, engines, transmissions, Holleys galore. They have a ragtop and a coupe with titles, they want to liquidate it all super cheap ($500!!!!!!!) I'm just totally broke or I would grab it all. Go to CL Boston and search "AddisonStSale". Super nice people, unbelievable deal. Are all the tools included too? That looks like several thousand dollars worth of stuff. You should borrow $500 from somebody because you could sell that ragtop alone for at least a couple thousand. Good luck....
Borrow 500 bucks from family or friends, there is several thousand of dollars worth of parts there, you can repay the loan in short order with interest just by selling a few parts.HRP
Just went back w/ cash. Too late! But they may call if there's anything left (people on their way from out of state may not have room in their truck.) if I end up w/ any I will see if a Hamber who's into Falcons wants it, or maybe go to Amherst NH this summer...
That is an incredible deal. Too far for me, and I already have two '65s, but that is an absolute steal.
Wish I knew about this when I was in boston an hour ago. Sent from my SCH-I545 using H.A.M.B. mobile app
Damn ! I'm sitting at the airport right now ! On a serious note, I always feel bad going to an estate sale where the guy has passed and his lifelong collection, that he loved, is being picked through by other people. Kinda sad. Don
Well while we're waiting for someone to announce the score, find these items in the bottom photo: Pipe wrench Lag bolts Gate hinge Heater Core Carb Gasket Keyhole Saw
In an instance like this , a GOOD person would have taken these people aside & explained to them exactly what they had & what it is worth, I'm all for getting a good deal , but com'on , fair is fair & right is right , in the end , you have to look yourself in the mirror ... dave
^^ Agree, or hold an auction. That said, if the house and property are to be sold, and the cars and tools are a small fraction of what it's worth, they may just want it gone pronto. I went to a similar sale last year but with contractor tools and building materials. Probably $10k worth of stuff if sold properly but the house was going on the market for $600K and they wanted the place cleared out.
Quite the judgement call when you don't have a clue what the circumstances are. That being said, I watched a good friend's lifetime collection ( cars , tools, bikes) get auctioned off for cents on the dollar when he died ( at 54) because his wife was so distraught and just wanted it gone- too many memories ( included was a Corvette he built just for her, sold for 5 grand). I had to leave the auction; it was horrible to witness.
I'm with you guys, I think they knew what everything could be sold for, they really loved their dad/husband and really wanted another car guy like him to get a great deal and use his stuff. They need to clear the barn and the yard so were trying to basically give it away. Either a car guy from RI is grabbing it or someone is going to sell it elsewhere for profit, hopefully it helps them either way. They were really cool to me and my daughter, gave her a box of baseball cards and handfuls of other stuff, showed us their Dad's running Falcon ragtop (that one not for sale), Told us all about their Dad, how much he loved his hobby, etc. I'm basically broke this month but I did buy a toolbox full of reamers, taps and dies to help make their yard sale profitable. I don't really buy and sell stuff, (buying not a problem, selling not so much), I am not the best bread winner, and am too busy to really deal with that much stuff, but thought if someone on the Hamb was into Falcons they could use a lot of it, there must have been 20 Holleys, at least 6 Ford V8's, bell housings, adapters, like 5 standard transmissions (some 4 speeds), lots of body panels, seats, tons os starters, trim, generators, 64 Falcon stuff everywhere along with the same collection of bits and bobs we all gather over the years. It was cool to go there and connect with them. "A GOOD person would have pulled them aside...." Actually I did, I told them about HAMB and that someone there might pay $500 for just one of the 4 speeds alone, that they should join and try to sell in the Hamb marketplace. That if they weren't having luck on CL, they would find enthusiasts here. It wasn't really news to their son who had come from the midwest to handle it, he seemed pretty savvy, owns some old vws. No one's accused me of being a good person lately, but no one's accused me of being a @&$!- heel either, (at least for 7 years anyway). Let's read some other threads, the Quonset hut full of pre war stuff and the running and rusting are my favorite right now...
Yes, don't die like Nailhead says our try and keep your hobby to a manageable level for the family who has to deal with when you move on. They will thank you for it.
Hey, don't worry, you will see the same stuff at Amherst, this summer. What you won't see is the $500 buck price tag for all, just get it off my trailer. This is the great thing about middle men, they can't build a hot rod, but can make it expensive for those who do.
I have been not dyeing for over 60 years. Have had lots of chances but it jus didn't look like fun. If I can hang on for another month of two my stuff will be in sellable condition and my missus knows where to sell and for what.
Yes maybe I was a bit crass....oops but I did I like this post for 2 reasons 1) the OP selflessly passed on a seriously smokin deal to his fellow car guy's here on the HAMB and 2 ) this line.... wish there were more people like clunker passing on their info about cars/parts they know of but can't build for various reasons and more people who look past their own pain and loss to recognize something that would have meant a lot to their loved one instead of financial gain This is another cool post http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/pay-it-foward-free-parts-for-hamb-members.251147/
