I have found what I think is an old Indian Motorcycle War Bonnet. Does anyone know what is was used on? It is approximately 9" high and 21" long. It mounts with 4 screws to a curved surface. 2014 100.JPG

Seems a little big for a front fender accessory. Maybe on a Side hack?

At that size I would guess it may be a Pontiac hood ornament.

  6. look up indian scouts or 101 scouts you will see them there. they were popular accessories at that time. being a antique motorcycle field judge i have seen several of these. with only one pic posted its hard to tell for sure what it is. they were bolted on by the 90 degree angle tabs.16,18,19 inch wheels were the norm at that time so they had big fenders. it wasn't until the early 40s that the 16 inch tires came out. for some reason these pieces were not seen on the larger chiefs. the length should be around 6-8 inches.

  7. ^^^^He stated that it's 21 inches long. A bit large for a fender accessory

Even at 21" in length it would still fit on a 40's or earlier Indian full front fender .

  10. reread the first post more carefully. my mistake. its not a original based on the size. way to big.

  11. It wouldn't fit a leaf springer fender. Besides, there doesn't seem to be enough curve, at 21 inches long, to fit on the later girder fork model. Plus, I think it would be ugly as hell. Way too big. I could see it mounted on the roof of a dealers truck

I didn't think it through . Yes it wouldn't fit the leafer forks good point .
Maybe it isn't motorcycle related . Several Co's used a Indian Chief as a logo before the world became PC.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder . I think it is a Kool piece . It has nice detail in it . Make roll a circle out of some 2 x 3/16 flat , mount it on top . Then cut some 1/8 plate in a circle to hang in the hole and paint your garage name on it . Then hang it at the front door.

Hey guys- I found this forum on a search and I can ***ure you, that's not a motorcycle part. I have one myself and have been researching it for months. Mike Wolfe, of American Pickers, pointed me in the right direction. It's an ornament that came on 1948ish travel trailers made by Indian Trailer Corp. of Chicago. They had several models,, such as the Chieftan, Super Chief and such. The ornament was mounted on the upper part of the trailer where the body sloped down, similar to how a late 40s Pontiac's hood ornament looked. Very few of the trailers are still around, making that a really rare part. I have yet to find an ***essed value on one. Hope that helps :)
