We've been working on a rare (yes, I used that word) '32 Plymouth PB Coupe. Plymouth only produced this model for about six months. It's a survivor hot rod from the '50's. We can only speculate on when it was built, and think sometime in the mid to late '50's. I've based my guess on the original hot rod motor that was in the car, an Olds 303 with 324 heads. It's been channeled about four inches, but had the rear fenders moved up, and the running boards and front fenders retained. The current owners dad bought the car in Minnesota in the early '70's. Pulled the motor and sold if off, and then pushed it into a barn. There it sat until this year. She married a great guy. And along with her husband and dad, decided to put it back on the road. New power included a Hilborn Injected 392 Hemi. Here are some shots of the ch***is, almost done.
Can you explain the differences in the PB, PF and PE Coupes? I think wheelbase was one. I had a plymouth coupe, but never could figgure out what model it was. Any idea? BTW Your work is AMAZING!
Yea. The PB would have had two cowl vents and was only made for six months in '32. If that's a picture of yours', AND it's a '32, I'd say it's one of the other models as you only have one cowl vent. I'm not sure on the '32 and up stuff with the exception of this one. I'd speculate that they were either trim levels or perhaps 3 / 5 widow models???
Yea, me too. But sometimes the owner makes that call. Scotts a great guy, and I think he really wanted the best ride (as advertised) he could give Jane. Also, Jane loves cars, and really liked the look of the rear end. It may not be period correct through and through, but she likes it. And that's what's important. She says she's going to drive the hell out of it, as much as the weather holds out. Think about it. It's a chicks car AND it's got an Injected Hemi AND she's going to drive the pants off of it. How cool is that?
If the customer wants a rubber ***hole for a wooden hobby horse, I'm putting in for them and cashing the check. Whether I like it or not. Great job. I love the hemi.
Looks like it's gonna be an awesome car. Good luck with making the injection streetable. Are you converting it to EFI?
How about a side view. Does it have the suicide doors? I thought those were only in '33-'34 (and early '35 for trucks). Is it a 3W stock? Chazz's was a '34 if I remember correctly.
Looks GREAT! I'm looking forward to watching this build and meeting the owner one of these days. She sounds cool.
Nice car. I have a neighbor that has a '33 Plymouth 3W, bought it many years ago as a stock car, put a Pinto 4cyl & C-4 in it years ago, '70s chrome wire wheels, I would kill for the car. Of course he would kill me for doing what I would do to it. The IRS is cool, each to his own tastes. If we all agreed on what we like it would be boring as hell because everyone's car would look alike
If we don't run into each other before hand, could you bring her to the Meet & Greet cuz I really would like to shake her hand.
great progress, i saw it at the open house w/o the motor. i heard the rear end was a delight to install too, all the holes mounted up nice and easy, ha. lookin great though, can't wait to see it completed.
It is EFI. The one concession to period correct on the motor. We'll be hiding as much as we can. But hey, it's stack injection on a Hemi. I'm in love.
Kevin, You are doing a great job, was a priveledge to check it out when we stopped by on the Salt Cured Hamb Tour. I'm a Mopar guy and very glad to see you have a great customer willing to put the effort and $$$ into the better looking deuce (not that I would kick a 32 Ford out of my garage). Can't wait to see more. Scott.
I was wondering abouot that injection. I think I saw an issue of Rod & Custom in which they hid most of the EFI stuff in the valley of the block. They also raised up the barrels and stacks to fit a plate that holds the injecters as well. They stuffed all this under a finned valley cover. Looked legit. The article is called "Stacks of Style." Here is some pics I gleened from R&C. Can't wait to ask you about the LeMons race Kevin.
