I recently purchased a N.O.S set of 600-16 4 ply Seiberling Safety Tires with Heat vents for my Model A. I found an ad from life magazine on the internet from 1938 showing exact tire. These are still partially in paper wrappers and look brand new, no dry rot whatsoever. Does anyone know if these handle well or are a good tire. It looks like they are made to handle higher speeds, at least that's what I gather from the ad. Any info would be appreciated. I am probably going to sell since I have wide whites on 15 " steel wheels with full moons now.
How good they were new isn't that relevant now. Even though there's no visible dry rot they're awful risky to use. Nice showpieces for the right static display car though. Good find.
They were a quality tire in their day but that day was 50 years ago. The "Safety Tire" and "Heat Vent" bits were merely marketing hype for the time. Who would know whether or not they handled any better than the Goodyears, Firestones, or Goodriches from the same era-nobody did comparative or critical testing back in those days. Given their age, I'd be afarid to use them except for STATIC display.
