I have located one of these fairly close with Shrink and Stretch Jaws.Only problem is the price.$2750 is a pretty steep nut to this old Kiwi--Would anyone have a lead on one in the West or Northwest?Or know of anyone I could call?? I really need one--most of the other pieces I think I can get,but I really am after one of these...

    I suggest you try:

www.metalshapers.org (look through all the albums) also join the email list. These tools come up for sale. I bought my Trumpf nibbler on a tip from a guy on the list and my shrinking thumbnail dies from another.

and www.metalmeet.com (check out the forum)

You can modify a lancaster style shrinker to work a lot better for cheap.

    Ercos,and Marchants,are BIG bucks.
$2750 sounds like alot, but might not be a bad deal when you see the cost of new jaws.

Check out the "links" section here:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/metalshapers/ for tool sources.

Stationary CP Planishing hammers go for $5000 and up.
Reproduction motor housings, motors, and dies are available from Michigan Pneumatic,
if you don't mind making the frame. http://www.metalshapers.org/store2/hammer/index.htm

There are not alot of Edwards machines around, and a fabricated frame can be stiffer.
If you really want a cast iron English Wheel check out http://www.tridenttool.ca/

i would think that an erco kick shrinker that your speaking of would sell for ALOT more than the number you've given.. are the JAWS in good shape?

where are you located? I AM LOOKING FOR A PULLMAX OR SIMILAR machine as well.. (unless I get my own version done before i find the real deal...)

FWIW what are you trying to do?? or planning to build that you would need an erco? as far as a e wheel goes, it prohably be better to build your own fabricated frame than to locate and purchase an edwards cast wheel .. the cast will "flex" more than the fabricated steel..

    Pullmaxs show up on E-bay.
Prices start around $500 and go up,sometimes way up,depending on the model and attatchments.
Some guys are using Libert, and other offbrand nibblers,as an alternative.

  8. We are also looking for a Pullmax! We have a Watervliet Planishing hammer, it is sweet. It is nice to see interest in metal fab tooling!

Rmember, if you find what you are looking for nearby, it is a good deal at 500-1000 OVER what you would like to pay! I mean, it could cost 500-1000 for transporting a heavy or large tool even a few hundred miles! I think a Pullmax from one of the coasts would run 1500-2k TO GET IT BACK TO ME!

There was one on Ebay a couple of months ago for about $ 400.
I had a buddy of mine in Holland look into what the shipping would be, because the machine was in England.
Shipping would have come to about $2400 ( might have been Euro's he wasn't clear on that...), and then I still would have had to change the Electric Motor on it so it would work here, and there was no tooling with it.
Most of the other ones I have seen on Ebay went for 2000/3000 depending on tooling and Type...
Add some transport costs to that and then it still seems like a better deal than $1800/1900 for a E Wheel kit, or the E wheel I saw being sold at a local auction ( Airplane business going belly up ) for over $3500.

  10. If ya had one up yer arse you'd know where it was, wooden ya?
Hey, I may hafta coome out there to finish up a real-estate deal sometime this year...still living in the same place? I promise I'll make time to stop by this time...sorry, couldn't stop bustin ass the last time I was out...

Sometimes you can get lucky at an auction; About 7 years ago a buddy of mine bought an erco kick-shrinker at an industrial auction for $60.00 Canadian. They had it listed as a hole-punch.

Thanks, everyone.Would have been back on but I`ve had another one of these weeks.Loretta to the Emergency room,Dry Rot in the shower, etc etc.Jim--great to hear from you,I`ll call you this weekend.Rocky--we are at the same address, but that will change here in the next few months. There is a plan afoot.I`ll fill you in when things get more organised.May have found a Pullmax locally but I have to chase it down.I`d appreciate any opinions on English Wheels. We use a fabricated U.S. Industrial wheel at the shop but it isn`t as good as I would like....Unkl Ian,appreciate the input.I have looked at the metalshapers site, not sure about joining.By the way--my hands were all over the 40 Merc in the new Journal. As usual,I was conveniently left out of the story or Credits....
