This T roadster was on ebay a couple of weeks back and it looked like the real McCoy, although I didn't know specifically whose car it was. In addition to the aluminum nose, three-piece hood and deck lid (***umed to be done by Whitey Clayton because of excellent workmanship), the information in the auction said that it was an A ch***is, '32 crossmembers, '32 heavy axle up front with banjo rear, top loader trans, torque tube, and set up for flathead (no motor). The car was in St. Louis, and was purchased from "2 brothers who had owned it for 50 years and who purchased it in Texas in 1953." It sold for $10k to a single bidder, which I thought was a pretty fair deal - especially considering that the scabbed together Billy Lane/Choppers Inc. Model T was auctioned the same week and had a 40 person bidding war that landed just over $14k. I got in touch with the winner who said that he had a 1950 shot of Ken Walkey's T roadster that looked like the same car (shot in Burbank). He wants to restore the car back to the way it was on the lakes and is looking for information/photos of the history of it. So, if you recognize this car and have any history, post it here. Curt
My buddy looked at buying that car late last year, but held out. I begged him to buy it....I said th fact that Whitey Clayton did the nose (we had guessed anyways) was worth the 10K I hope to see it restored....*****in car!
just rub it in!!!! i was hoping to find a way i could have bought that but i couldnt make it work im glad to see that the guy will restore it to the dry lakes time period thats what i would have done I'd hate to have seen it end up like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...018QQitemZ280085513133QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Last year? Maybe it's just because I'm on the east coast, but I'm amazed that thing has been actively for sale for that long and is just now hitting ebay! Did the owner have any other history on the car that he let you guys in on when you went to look at it?
The story is Mark Morton, editer of Hop Up, emailed my buddy pics saying it was for sale, not being advertised, but just a "under the table" type thing. It was just for sale to friends, he did not want to advertise the car. The price was 10K firm. My buddie p***ed (why I do not know, I tried and begged him to buy it), and Mark said the guy was going to sit on it for a while if it did not sell. Guess a while was about now.
