Hot Rods info ... trying to adjust play Lincoln gear box ?

    steering gear box on 46 Lincoln steering gear box ... is this box adjustable ? How ?

    What brand is it, who made it? Surly its a common box used on many things.

    Only adjustment easily is the sector. Remove the big hex cap over the star. Pop the star off. Then you can use a screwdriver to adjust the sector adjuster up or down. Probably down.

    If the worm gear has looseness, the steering wheel might pull in and out of the column, it could require reshimming the gaskets at the end plate. If the sector wiggles side to side, it would require new bushings. Both those are done during full rebuild time.

    I recommend John Deere corn head grease for lube.
