Does anyone have any info, pictures, details on the aftermarket and factory accessory pick-up beds that were placed in the trunk's of p***enger cars?

Heres a picture of the kind of thing I'm looking for.

Interested more in the earlier vintage fitment like Model 'A' and 'B's.

  2. I don't know about aftermarket stuff, but when I built my 31 roadster pickup (see avatar) I did a lot of research, then built a brand new bed from scratch. (my rpu was a sedan when I started it).I found an original model A ford, measured the box on the old one, and then created engineering drawings to build a new one identical to the old. I even have a post on the HAMB where I posted all the drawings.---Brian

  3. I don't know if these were ever a Ford accessery, but Montgomery Wards, and Sears use to sell these. I have seen two cars here in santa rosa, back in the late 60's, one a 30 A coupe, and a 33 coupe that had boxes in back. The 33 coupe box had a tag that said David Bradley, which was sold by Sears....Ed

  4. You thinking of taking goats to market then Clark? Bob's old Chevy sedan still had the tether chains in the corner of the trunk...

I have one from a '51-'52 Chev coupe, represented as being used by the U.S. Forest Service when new. No makers' tag or #s.
Chevrolet sold a small number of Coupe Pickups every year from the mid '20s up until WWII. Hudson & Studebaker built them as well.

They used to be called a "Sears Kit". You'll probably have to make up one as I doubt if anyone makes them anymore. .........Bob

The one show is I think factory...one year only from Ford, a special model rather than an add-on. I think there were others in rustic overseas markets like South Africa.
Check out "Those Wonderful Unauthorized accessories" (Approximate ***le), a book of Model A bits available from most parts dealers.

I believe there is a picture of an 'A' one in that book.

I vaguely remember someone posting the picture on Ahooga.

Not even worth trying the search function on there!

There is also the "Kari-Keen" trunk, a conventional looking luggage-rack trunk kind of a thing that swings open into a capacious pickup bed...neat, but what the hell is supposed to support anything out there several feet from the end of the frame???
With an A, most people here just butchered some metal , either hacking just the lower sides or hacking off everything behind the seat; there really isn't anyway to build much of a box without destroying consideraly more than the rear pan.

There was an original in OK shape on ebay within the last couple months only went for a couple hundred bucks.. It was here in the northwest and I believe it was a small one intended for an A sized coupe. I think the idea of it was pull the deck lid and slide in bolt down instant PU.

I rember one being on Ebay as well. It was alot longer than a couple of months though.
I remember it was on there a couple of times. Must have been hard to shift or reserve was set to high!
