Hey all; Some guy wants to sell me a set of Ford wheels , they look like the ones on a '37 Ford. I want to be fair ,and make him the right offer . Whats a set of four, in restorable condition worth! no caps!! Ps; What years does that style fit ? Thanx Msgt Dad
36-39 Ford cars and pickup trucks and some later commercial vehicles used a "wide 5" wheel. Bolt pattern is 5 on 10.25" if I recall correctly. If these wheels are 4" wide they are not worth much, $15 each if the five hubcap clips are intact. Narrower and wider wheels are worth more. The 36-39 Fords used one piece brake drums/hubs. These drums are not being reproduced so many owners will swap them out at brake job time for 40-48 two piece drum/hubs. I would not buy the wheels unless you have a vehicle with serviceable drums.
Mr. Bib, If ya' want to see some 2 piece wide 5, '37-'39, hubs and drums, pay me a visit. They were made both ways. Don't be p***ing on misleading info.
The two piece units can be separated by unbolting. Then only run the inner part of drum on front for landspeed or drag races. Way cool old school way it was done. The inner part works to bolt on early 5 on 5 1/2" wheel without unnecessary front brakes... before spindle mounts were used.
Learn something new every day. But my point was finding serviceable condition wide five drums in any configuration can be a problem. I have looked at a half dozen sets at swap meets over the past couple of years and none were better than the set I have in my shop and they will not take another cut.
Hey Bib; Guess it's a mute point now! Just talked to the guy and he wants $75. plus shipping from NE to Ohio. I decided that I'm out, anybody else want the guys E-mail I'll get it to ya' ! " learn somthin' new every day, just can remember what!!" Msgt Dad
