Hot Rods Information help on a Ford rearend

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by billshotrodstuff, Jul 29, 2011.

  1. I have a 32 (glass) Ford roadster, old school all the way. Solid axle front with parallel leaf, and a Ford rear on an eliptical (buggy) spring, sitting on 32 rails. Problem is, I discoved that it has 17 spline axles, which are 53-54 Ford passenger car. The housing looks like a typical 9 inch with the "hump" on the backside and all familiar attachments. My question is, can I replace the third member and install updated larger axles. Got a smokin good 454 in it and I done twisted one of them, and they're getting a little hard to find. I would appreciate any help possible
    Thanks guys.

Anyway the 53-54 ford rear may look like a 9 inch, but its not. Your gunna have to change the whole thing probably. Or drive it nicer. Or get a flathead or block
