What is the main difference between a 2 piece rear main seal and a 1 piece, chevy 350 are the oil pans the same ?

  2. oil pans are not the same , and the flywheel/flexplate are different too

going to one piece seal the crankshaft basically lost a counterweight , so one was added to the flexplate/flywheel. the bolt pattern on the crankshaft flange is different so you can not mix them up

About everything is different -not a "retrofit" thing-engine is either 1or 2 piece seal. Crank, block, flywheel, pan, etc. is different.....

  4. it should be mentioned that any transmission that will bolt to a 2-piece seal SBC will bolt up to a one piece seal SBC....the bolt pattern there is the same. you just have to use the correct flexplate/flywheel
