jam a screwdriver through it and twist. It will either come off or you will open it like a tin can and have even more problems:eek:

try a set of filter pliers (kinda look like channel locks), HF sells some, I had a filter totally collapse before and the pliers worked. I never over tightened a filter again

Drive a screwdriver through it and use it for a handle ! It will come off ! When putting new filter on read the directions ! After it touches 3/4 of a turn .

Been there and tried that also, but stopped prior to ripping it apart

  8. have you tried the plier style with the teeth? i had one stuck and they worked well cause you can get them to bite anywhere on the oil filter. i think there like $8 bucks at a harbor freight.

Stop buying that Fram junk :p Sometimes "free" is too expensive.

Use a vice-grip type tool towards the top, not the bottom.

P.S. You don't need 100 lb's of torque to put these on, hand tight is all you need, as it has a rubber gasket, eh??

I've had one where we ended up tearing the whole filter off, until it was just the screw in cap on top left, then I lined a screwdriver on that and beat it off with a hammer. It did come off eventually, but it was easier for me since the motor was out of the car.

I had one stick so bad on a sbc I had to use an air hammer to get it off. I destroyed it when I tried the screwdriver trick. If all else fails you might have to do the same thing. GOOD LUCK.

Brian, yeah the thickest screwdriver you can find. If the can starts to tear......brakekleen the fawk out of it, then wrap the can with ducttape over/under/over/under the screwdriver proturding from both sides.

Or I've learned after a few bad ones to pre-wrap with ducttape......then stab it! Fork in NECK!

And not a single one was EVER INSTALLED BY ME!!!

Worst case is you have a skirt hanging there, but you'll be able to see the threads and with a SMALL chisel and small hammer you can surgically peal it all off and back then using a brass drift try to hit it into spinning off.

GOOD LUCK, bring the carcass to Roundup!

You might try to hit it UPWARDS with like a rubber mallet. I've done this on stuck bolts to shake loose the threads.
Damn, If the screwdriver deal doesn't work, someone needs to get kicked in the nuts for putting it on too tight.
At this point, I wouldn't be too afraid about destroying the filter. If anything it will make life easier. It's not like we are talking about some SUPER rare engine parts here. Worst case, you end up getting a 15 dollar screw on adapter.

  17. I was gonna suggest the air hammer also. If not get one guy to hold the filter steady while another spins the car......

    Sorrry............

Hey, you are turning it the right way, arent you????? Just checking...

I also had one we had to tear apart and get down to the base plate. Then we could set a heavy duty screw driver into one od the holes in the base and beat the thing off. The fool that owned the car twisted it with a wrench when he installed it, it had been on the car for over 2 years. Gene

If you have a strong leather belt use it like a pipe wrench. Loop it around and pull in the opposite direction of the buckle. Or if you have a pipe wrench use that. Won't tear it up, but not as effective as a screwdriver.

well if you already skirted it, go on and gut it out with the screwdriver or claw hammer. Now brakekleen or carb cleaner the shit out of it so you can see what you are working with. The get to pealing the metal away from the threads on the block.

    BE CAREFUL!!!

If you do rip the housing off take a chisel and hammer and tap the base around. Lay the chisel flat and wack it.

DO NOT APPLY HEAT!! OIL HAS GAS IN IT!!!

Two it to jiffy lube make a scene and say "you guys put it on, now get it off" Once they are done give them a big tip say you are sorry and by them a pizza!!

You know (This is kinda O/T) one of our old next door neighbors, a school teacher came over one day to ask how to get an oil filter out. My father old him (I was about 14 at the time) to drive a screw driver through it. He did.
And through the new one to tighten it up. Honestly a true story!

I have 4 different removal devices, seems none of them work as well as either the screw driver of a HUGE pair of multi grips.
    Good luck,
    Doc.

  28. I've got a chain wrench. It will either get it off or it will squeeze it to pieces ..

I have a 3 jaw wrench that fits a 3/8" ratchet. It has these 3 gear driven fingers that grip tighter as you turn the ratchet. It was only about $10 at a swap meet. It's freakin' great
