Facing the Car? I have a 223 and the exhaust/intake are on the drivers side the distributor is on the passengers side you could check out fordsix.com they have lots of that stuff
Sometimes you have to cheat to figure things out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Straight-6_engine But the O/Reilly web site only shows a 223 six for 63 F100 pickups as the 340 and 300 didn't start until 64 or later. Another way to cheat. Go to http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/fi/pardonourdust.oap and plug in your truck in the vehicle statistics.
if you can get the casting #'s off the block maybe these guys can help you determine the size. -DVZ http://www.inliners.org/
http://fordsix.com/forum/index.php or this forum has a great deal of knowledge on the Ford Inline engines.
You likely have a 240 or 300 truck six in your 63 Ford pickup. Knowing Ford if your truck is a late production 63 it may have had the "new" engine installed as a running change.
Exhaust and intake on the driver's side means it's a 223 or 262, most likely 223. Earlier 223's had the two studs in the middle of the valve cover, later ones had bolts around the outside. They were produced from 54 through 64. The 240 wasn't offered until 65, and had the intake and exhaust on the opposite (passenger) side.
You can click on go advanced and to the right of the happyface on top there is a paper clip, click on that and it will let you attach a photo from your computer or you can use Photobucket or Flicker or ?? photo host to post it. Usually by copying and pasting the IMG link on one of those sites. If you can't figure it out email the photo to me Mr48chev@yahoo.com and I'll post it for you. I'm going to be outside working on the work car a lot today and not around the computer so it might take a while today.
If the engine is original, it is NOT a 240/300. Ford put that family into production in 65. Intake and exhaust on 240/300 is on the passenger side. Intake and exhaust on 223 is on the drivers side. And, in case you were wondering: There is little discernable external difference between the 240 and 300. They share the block and external accessories. 240 usually has 1 groove crank pulley, 300 has 2 (or more on late model, pre-serpentine belt systems) The 223 block is different, it takes a different bell housing than the big block sixes. Looks like you figured out how to get it on there And it appears to be a 223. There are some photos of an earlier one here https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/kkessler/www/53_Ford_F100/53_ford_f100_223.htm
Carb should be a Holley 1904 and that 223 will probably run forever even looking like it does. They are pretty bullet proof; I've been trying to kill mine for 10+ years with no success. Conor
That be the 223. I pulled mine out of a field were it had been sittin for years. Got it to my house were it just sat. Sold it and it just sat. Bought it back a year later and finally got it ready for the road. Fired it up the first time and it aint had problems yet..... except that fuel gauge that reads a half tank ALL the time. I carry a gas jug with me now.
