1953 Truck Engine B.JPG UK builder here, this is a pic of my GM 250 Engine with capped off points on each cylinder port head .....has any body ever seen or heard of these 250 Inlines with Direct Injection Mods as per this paticular engine or have I got a one off special ?

The original engine number is: F1013 CSD which I think to be: 1972 250 built at Flint Mich (13th Oct).

them ports are in the exhaust they are for the air pump or smog pump

  3. Those were for air injection, they used to inject air into the exhaust to lower emissions, it didn't really lower emissions at all but the added air made it measure a lower carbohydrons to air ratio at the end of the exhaust pipe.

The only engines from the 70's that were direct injection, ran on diesel. No US manufacturer started using direct injection on a gas motor until the last decade. That said, A friend of mine built this Outlaw clone / tribute (the body came out of the original Outlaw mold) using a 250 Chevy. It has hilborn fuel injection. However, I do not know if he found an old manifold or adapted a V8 injection setup, so I am not much help to you there. It is a wickedly cool car though.
