I presently have a 235 Chevrolet with a 50's period Edelbrock Intake and am going to install a Chevrolet 261 with a Clifford 4bbl intake, Fentons old style with integral heat mated by my machinist friend to the Clifford base. I believe it is possible to do a hard linkage to the Holley 390 cfm carb, but I haven't been down this road before, therefore, am also open to do a flexible line Lokar cable from the bell crank located at the engine. would also like to orient the 2 primaries, then 2 secondary's to provide the best flow. Looking for ideas, suggestions, personal experience. Pictures to follow.
Mine carb is mounted sideways. It’s a race car so a cable was used. Stock linkage style could be mad me to work from the bell crank mounted on the block but it going to take some thought and an another adjustable bell crank mounted vertically. Mr. Gasket sell one #1523 but your going to make brackets that mount either to the head studs or intake/exhaust studs. You may want to slip insulation sleeves over your oil lines. I use the red ones that don’t hold water and use heat shrink over the ends. Other than the aluminum mounting plate and the longer head studs from ARP my shaft and arms are from Kinsler Fuel Injection which sell lots of parts. My cable is at the rear of the engine.
Jimmy 6, I’ve seen your set-up before, looks solid. If you could, a picture or description of pedal to flexible line if you can. Duly noted on oil line. I have just a break-in with a different intake/exhaust, I am far from finished. Thanks
Google gas pedal mine is a 40 year old which they still make Speedway cast aluminum under $40 my race car is mounted flat can’t do a photo right now. My sons in his 40 Chevrolet is about 45*
Thanks 302GMC, looks solid. 302GMC has his carburetor oriented North and South while Jimmy Six is East and West. I was planning on E-W just because I thought that in my 1949 half ton Chevrolet truck it would be easier. Does it matter how that fuelish air is presented to the 3 siamesed intake ports from the central plenum? Thanks, hope this subject is helpful. The Clifford 4 barrel intakes never really seemed to catch on. A good friend, Jack Halton, RIP, past Inliner's president, ran a Clifford on his 302. I should have taken more pictures. I'm adhering to the teachings of Tom Langdon as well who insists on a heat source to the plenum area at the base of the carburetor.
Floor Mount Gas Pedal Black Throttle Cable Combo Universal Good idea, JS, good visuals to imagine a set-up, thanks.
Cosmo49 I read your going to use a 390 Holley and adapter but a small base Carter WCFB and Rochester 4GC are a bolt on and are right at 400cfm. Both the Clifford, Offenhauser, and a Edelbrock Ford flathead V8 manifolds are made for them. I use 2 WCFB’s on my dual quad y-block be so I didn’t want adapters and AFB’s. Photo shows a large base and adapter so there are thousands of carbs available and they can push from the bottom so you don’t need a Chevrolet.
Cosmo, you see if Larokee has photos of the the 37 Chevy pu he got me me. It had a 261 and then the GMC 302 with 4 bbls.... So how ya doing? Been a long time...
