I have a rare 1937 car that the aftermarket does not make replacement door handle escutcheons. I need them shallow in height and the ID needs to be 11/16. Can anyone recommend a standard car that I could buy aftermarket replacement escutcheon. A lot of ads do not have dimensions. Thanks in advance for the replies. If you are wondering, it is a 1937 Hudson Terraplane.
I can't directly answer your question but I have made an escutcheon plate using a big flat washer covered in chrome vinyl wrap.
Ballpark diameter? For inspiration check out the horn ****on that Neal made out of a block "core" plug. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/32-5w-build-the-4k-swapmeet-body.1284710/page-13
I bought these for my pickup. They are spring loaded to cover the pin that secures the handle. See notes below.
Try the plumbing supplies, there are various types sold for covering the holes in tiles and walls around outlets. Most are stainless or chrome.
Yep,36roadster's suggestion about plumbing supply companies is a good one........they are hard to see but I have had them on my 1940 Dodge 4dr since the mid 1970's......nice chrome and in various diameters......this is the only pic I could find that has the door handles in it........andyd
In the 30s most smaller auto manufacturers used door and window handles and attaching parts made by the Ternstedt Division of GM. You may fond that other companies used the same parts.
Do you have a photo of an original that you're looking for ? There are over 80 listings on ebay under hudson terraplane door escutcheon some don't say what the fit so you need to compare to what you need.
I tried to find escutcheons for a custom application also. Difficult because reproduction company's do not give dimensions ? You think they would sell more parts with that little detail ! Good luck
I suspect escutcheons from a 30s -40s Dodge will work. Those are not hard to find online. I'd contact the company listing them and see if they will measure the diameter of the hole. I believe I have an old window crank in the garage. If I remember I'll measure a Dodge one.
