Agreed, If not for the fact that I had access to, two parts cars I would not have even attempted this.
I did some looking, and found this catalog of 58 parts. They hav e more sheet metal than most places i've seen. still no complete floors though. http://www.autocityclassic.com/content/58ChevroletCatalog2014_2015.pdf
Thanks, might be a good source for parts. I believe I've made up my mind to put a 64 full floor pan, and braces in. My plan all along was to run a set of 63/64 buckets with console, and by running the 64 pan the seats should bolt in as factory? From what I can tell the 64 pan should go in with out much issue.... If anyone has done this I'd like to hear from you.
Im looking forward to seeing how you get the 64 floor in Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Ok decided that no one knows how 64 floors are going to fit into a 58, so there is only one way to find out..... so here I go! Bought the 2 piece since I figured I would have to make some mods, or build a new trans tunnel for the Ford trans anyway, but to my surprise the trans looks to clear for the most part. Just laying the floors in it's not too far off other that the toe board, but I knew that going in. so with a bit of trimming got that out of the way. Still going to have to nip and tuck, here and there but they will work. Will have to use the 64 bracing which I figured would be the case, but it actually will work better than the 58 as it gives more clearance over the tail of the tranny. So for now the floors are laying in place till I get the bracing. Will follow up soon......
Wow that actually fits a lot better than i thought it would. I guess i always figured that the 58 was a lot narrower inside than the 59-64. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It is good to see you are back on this project. Your engine and transmission put this build over the top. That is really thinking outside the box.
The 64 front x-member came in so got it installed, had the move the two mounts, but not a bad fit otherwise. Got both floors welded in today, still have a little to do at the toe boards.
Also got the rear quarter completely striped and the first coat of prime on...starting to look like a car..
Thanks. Got the 64 shifter mounted today and built a new linkage rod to connect to the Ford trans. The console is just sitting in place.
I love this build because of the huge level of commitment, really shows what can be done when a builder is willing to put in the work, and very nice looking work at that.
I used to work wth a guy who claimed he had a 1958 Chevy Tudor Wagon "Yeoman"? He bailed on the project because it was too rusty. He said he did some research and found that in 1958 GM experimented with a new type of rust proofing... IT DIDN'T WORK!!! Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
To be honest it was too rusty for a car that really isn't that desirable for a practical restoration, or even something to just throw together, but I figured I could put it on the back burner, and whittle away at it a little here and there over time it wouldn't be that bad, but at this point I need some room in the shop, so I will put a little more heat under it at this time.
Been busy, but here are a few random pics to show what has happened lately.... As of right now it is blown apart to get final clean up underneath, fame is headed to powdercoat, and engine is about to get torn down....still aways to go, but getting closer... kinda thinking outside the box on this one, so bare with me till it's done, before passing final judgement.....also if you want to see daily pics follow Insane Designs on Instagram...
Nice work, can't wait to see it finished. A 392 Hemi would be fun in there. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
