Hey i was just wondering how many of you run inspection stickers on you rods or sleds? Im not exactly sure if mine will p*** or not, are there less regulations to go by if you car is older? I dont know anything about this situation, thats why im asking!! Thanks Nate
In NY there's a manditory yearly safety inspection, and an emission/safety insp on cars 2 years old to 25 years old. Kinda goofy, but thats what they do. When i build 'em, i make sure they will p*** the safety deal.. Rat..
Man, I'm glad the bucket doesn't have to p*** any inspections. Ya gotta be up on your tetnus shots to get within 20 ft. of it. So yeah, stay away and your safe.
Michigan by and large doesn't have motor vehicle inspections except in a few counties(Oakland is one)like they do in New Hampster and Tax-and-sue-chetts.However they will pull a car over if they observe any defective equipment(such as a light burned out)and issue a 7 day fix it ticket. Some counties(such as the one I live in)are very much into speed limits and such from which they derive considerable revenue so I guess it all balances out in the end.
I think the only thing ill have to worry about is im running straight lake pipes no mufflers or anything, and the lowness of my car. I know that my exhaust wont p***, but i think i can get away with it. Does anybody know how low your car can be before its illegal? Thanks Nate
I do inspections at the shop i work at, and they change them every few years or so. Ya know, add this, remove that. It's more of a money maker for the state. They charge 16 bux for the emission/safety sticker, and 10 bux for the safety alone. If you get stoped for out of date sticker, you get a ticket.I think it's 50 charge, and a 25 surcharge..75 bux if you a day late! How about this..... You can have a ball joint thats ready to fall apart..thats not part of the insp. bad ball joint= accident.. but, if you have a broken lens, you fail! broken lens= you see white light! crazy man.. Rat..
Go to the local Secretary of State office(or DMV)and they should have a copy of the pertinent motor vehicle laws.Might charge you for it though.
Can't speak for other states but in maine, if it's registered as a hotrod or antique there's no inspection. It doesn't have to comply with emmissions or construction and use regs. But you can only go to meets, shows and related events.
I will have to do that, thanks for all the info, I went to get my comet inspected befor and it needed a ball joint and tie rod and i t failed but that was before it was all lowered and kustom stuff done to it. Thanks Nate
I do inspections in New York, too. Get this one: they just added this part - if your check engine light doesn't come on when you turn the key to start, or if it stays on after the car is started, it fails inspection. Starting this year, we also have to check the air pressure in all the tires and advise the customer if it isn't correct. We can't fail the car for low or high air pressure, but we have to fill out thge paperwork for it and give the customer a stern talking to. What ****!!
No inspection needed in Louisiana if your car is 40 years old or older. I had an indignant woman say "Its not the brand new cars that should be inspected, its the old ones." What she said makes sense to me. Hooray for special interest groups!
we've had an inspection since 1969 here in Missouri.mostly ********.we all have a buddy who closes one eye......
NC has inspections. And that's North Carolina not Nor Cal for the geographically challenged. Cars older than 25 years are safety only. Pretty basic. I got friends that will p*** pretty much anything I throw at them since I'm a licensed inspector, even though I don't work at an authorized shop right now.
plates that are only to go to shows and ect are just fine, every were you go is a possible show and shine cruise with a buddy and your a tour lol good luck tim, from the land of fenderless mudder trucks and rusty fords
I'm sure glad I build em in Cali(even with all the b.s). I grew up in NEW JERSEY.they have yearly inspections.let me tell ya ,a lot of new cars here in California would'nt p***. although "ALL" my cars stop, have brake lights, turn signals, updated headlights, seatbelts etc... some minor things Ill forgive on fair weather cars. example:if my 36 has lights that work.why cant the person with the LEXUS thats driven every friggin day replace a blown out headlight sheesh.
I chose to use the regular inspection process in TX instead of antique plates. Looked up the rules on line at TX-DOT. Head lights (2) Brake lights (1) horn Wiper of some sort Must go Must Stop No broken gl***. I go to an old timer who comes back with such a grin after the test drive it's all worth it. TZ
yeah some guys were telling me to get eitheir street rod or antique plates.I dont really want to get those plates because its not a street rod or a antique, i got some advice and said go to a "shade tree mechanic" and they will do it, so i think thats what ill do! Thanks Nate
Pakrat32 If you are doing inspections in NYS you had better get some more information ball joints ARE part of a saftey inspection in NY.
Kustomizer, I said "shady" not shade tree! There was this one armed guy in NH that had a shop out in the sticks somewhere. A bunch of guys I worked with told me that he was the guy to go to. The frist time I went there I was looking for an inspection for my 73 Bel Air. He came to the door, peeked out at my car from about 40 feet away, and said, "Looks like it's been undercoated every year." I agreed. Then he said, "Go get me the mileage." He gave me a s****er and the completed inspection sticker, and he never got any closer than 40 feet from it!
[ QUOTE ] Pakrat32 If you are doing inspections in NYS you had better get some more information ball joints ARE part of a saftey inspection in NY. [/ QUOTE ] I know they were, but i thought they changed that a few years ago. I will recheck the paperwork, i could very well have misunderstood what i read. Thanks, Rat..
Yeah, ball joints and tie rod ends are part of the inspection, but it's up to "inspector discression" whether they fail or not. In other words, if there's a little play in a lower ball joint on a GMC Jimmy (never happens, right?) one guy could p*** it while another could fail it. Of course, if the ball joint is about ready to pop out and fall on the floor, I think anyone would fail it.
Hey Deyo....we had so much of that kinda **** here in Nebraska [not to mention stealing and selling stickers, counterfeit stickers and blackmarket stickers] the entire state stopped the whole inspection process entirely. YAY! It was all bogus anyway...
I hear that Rocky. One year (2001 I think) they tried to save money with some kind of ****ty glue for the sticker. EVERY one of them peeled off for about 6 months until they changed the glue. It was great though, especially for me, I only had to get one car inspected!!!
