I just got my brake line kit today and now have almost everything I need to finish redoing the brake system on my 53. I have never done it before and I am a novice to this stuff but want to do it myself. 1st - the kit i ordered did not come with the fittings/connectors to split the lines in the front and back - can I pick this up at the local carquest or autozone? 2nd - is there anything special I need to do when making these connections? 3rd - I replaced the wheel cylinders and the master but not the shoes/springs because they seem to be in fine shape is this a mistake? I have installed the wheel cylinders and master cylinder and I am looking at this as a plumbing job now - any guidance? please & THANK YOU

Are you switching to a dual master? These old Fords did not have self adjusting brakes if you scroll back to 4/21/2011 check out the post there for info as to how to add them it's EZ and all the part numbers are there so you can upgrade the hardware, after 60 years the old stuff should be replaced as it can become brittle and break. As far as the br*** fittings go I had better luck at Ace Hardware, the parts dummys just gave me a blank stare.

Im in the same spot with my build. i did not buy a kit for mine, but i do have new front hoses and rear hose, also new brake line. just need to install and run the lines from back to front. so anyone that has some photos of what they did i would also appreciate it. i am pretty sure i know what to do, i would just like to see what everyone else has done thanks!!

There has been several members that have posted pictures here within the group, try the search function which doesn't always get you there, you may have to go back thru the archives and hunt them down.Run the hard lines the same as factory, the only thing different will be if you added a dual master,if you did I can walk you thru it and Ace Hardware will be your friend.

thanks jeffb2 - i read the self adjuting break thread and I may try it when the shoes need replace but when I did the wheel cylinders i adjusted the brakes and cleaned everything up and it all seemed to function well so I was just going to do the hydraulic part of the system now if I can get away with it. I am also not confident in my ability to modify anything with in the system and even though the self adjusting brake modifications seem easy I just dont think I want to do it on my own.

I didn't add the dual master - i guess i am staying stock all the way to the drums.

i was mainly concered with making the connections and where/if any copper washers are needed. one of my front wheel cyliders came with a copper washer. are they needed at both front cylinders? any where else?

BTW - I am getting a negative feel for Macs - they are zero help on the phone.

    BTW2 - thanks
