Jeff, in all honesty I was suggesting the complete clutch/brake pedal setup out of a late model Mustang, '85-96 ish vintage. The kit on fordmuscle is another option for sure.

I started to go the Fox body Mustang cable-clutch route with my 56 but sold the car before I finished it. Here's what the pedals look like

The fox clutch pedal pivot shaft is the same diameter as the 56 pedal pivot shaft, so you can swap them out, then you have the fox cable quadrant on the right side of the 56 pedal ***y. Then you just need to drill a hole in the firewall for the cable to p*** through, and fab a mount for the cable housing. I used a piece of exhaust tubing

The issue you will have is the bellhousing- the fox, cable clutch manual transmission bellhousing is setup for a T5, which has a different bolt pattern and a longer ( I think it's longer, but I know it's different...) input shaft. The late model TKO bellhousing has the right bolt pattern, but the input length is still off. I had an old ****tersheild for a toplader that I welded a fox-style pivot ball in, and then drilled a hole for the cable....

    Sorry for the lengthy post...

I looked at that post Jeff and it looks like a nice setup but it did state it dont work with the toploader (Im sure I'd have to fab up a bracket to make it work) But if this Hydraulic setup doesnt work I will sure look into doing that one. I didnt see a price but wouldnt think it would be real expensive. Doing the Hydraulic deal like i am is running me about $250 for all the parts except making a bracket. Now I'm going to have to buy a welder to make a bracket but Ive been wanting to get one for a while. I found one at Harbor freight for $169 that will weld up to 1/4" metal it says and I probably wouldnt ever have to weld anything thicker than that. But there out of stock of course so i gotta wait til they get some in.

Hey guys, revisiting this older post.

So has anyone used a factory type Z bar to work the clutch in a sbf/toploader combo in a 55/56?? Please share your set up?
I really dont wanna run a hydralic clutch and i dont mind fabbing up what i need but was hoping not to go in blind if someone could share how they made it happen.

I put a top loader behind a 292 in Racerons '56 when my shop built the car. Used the '56 pedals, Z- bar, a dual bolt pattern bellhousing ( drilled and tapped for both trans bolt patterns) and a '66 vintage top loader. Hurst compe***ion plus shifter comes out the floor right where you want it.
