Had these installed on my 302/c4 with no modifacations (except for collectors). Recently started installing a AOD and run in to alot of difficulties. I really wanted tri-y headers, enough that if I had to choose between the headers and the AOD I would keep the c4 if necessary. So I jumped off the deep end and started cutting them up. The orange paint on them indicates where I cut and welded them back together. The next phase was getting the collectors reshaped to go through the frame holes. I bought a 2.5 in combination bend and 2.25 exhaust pipe kit from Speedway. The collectors are 2.5. The main thing wth the headers was to get the collectors aimed at those frame holes. Rather than use the 3 hole flange that came on the header I bought 2 of the v-band type clamps cause space is tight. Tried to keep the collectors about the same length as they were but had to get through the frame. Also shown are Brockman Mellowtone mufflers and the tailpipes after welded together. More work than I anticipated but unlikely to see on other cars . Got to be different where I can. I'm pleased.
We had a member modify the Tri-Y's in a '56 a couple years ago he was running a 347 and 5 speed that was before we knew which ones were a direct fit,the Tri-Y's should give it a different exhaust sound maybe you can video it and share.
What are those tri-y headers originally for? Are they 65-66 mustang? I think tri-y headers will give you a lot more low end horse power. I like your thinking.
Yes, I think Carol Shelby designed them for their racing Mustangs. The 302 needs all the torque you can find.
