My friend Dave H. mailed me a really cool rear view mirror knowing mine was useless.
It's a wide angle mirror, much better.
I welded up a plate and screwed it into the cage, attached the mirror and what a nice improvement.
Too bit job but I sure can see better....

The rear view mirror mount in the Willys was much easier, bought a product and installed it.

Hot rod engines over the years.
The first engine [pictured on page1] was a 301 Chevy with a few tricks.
For example it had teflon inserts on the top of the pistons to disperse the heat.

    Next engine was a 365hp 327 [4-speed].

Later rebuilt it with a tunnel ram intake, had Tri ValleyMachine shop in Pacheco [Ca.]
do all the machine work per my instructions after a lot of homework.
Summers brothers made a kit to turn it into a 4 bolt mains, 1.6 roller rockers, head work by
a friend of mine who later worked at Brizio's, he ported and polished the heads.
12 to 1 pistons, bought racing fuel in 17 gallon drums BUT
using a memory tach I shifted it at 7800 rpm, wheels off the ground in 1st and 2nd gear.

    Next post, blower motor...

I initially installed the blown sbc out of the Willys into the hot rod.
It ran OK but needed some upgrading so bought new AFR aluminum heads,
    crank, rods, pistons, etc.
Too much boost so I blew it up, cracked the block but man oh man, it was fast for that short time.
Changed the top pulley from 31 to 35, runs fine now and still pretty fast.
Third set of wheelie bars, not kidding.

So Al [Ford wagon/390] dropped off his Holley carb yesterday saying it's getting gas
to the carb but nothing out of the squirters.
So I checked the inlet screen, needle and seats, float levels, accelerator pump,
    jets, etc.
    It was the accelerator pump...
I plumbed the carb up to the hot rod fuel line [and using the electric fuel pump] I tested it.
Works fine now, attached, "Hot Rod testing station,"

The wife and I attended the Cars and Coffee at The Cobra Museum on Easter day.
We took her 34 and [friend and track photographer] Dean Court parked next to us in his 48 Austin.
    Our dog Joey drove him,

Benicia is a nice show, we had the Willys there, depends on where you park for a good setting.

I once tried using bar stools as buckets seats Mick20250501_0012.jpg , had them upholstered and used
a release handle to allow them to swivel so I could easily get in and out of the car.

    About the three pictures above:
My first home in San Mateo 1972-74, my neighbor came over dressed as a clown [I forget why]
but the Corvette next to my car is my friend Mike C's 58.
It was in such bad shape when he found it he merely traded a dirt bike for it.
In later years it became a show winner, above.
He also has a world record breaking boat, he gave me a ride in it at Clear Lake, 114 mph.
That's the fastest I've ever been in a boat, felt a lot faster!

    Mad Mikey, speaking of that...
in the early 1970s I got arrested for doing 135+ in a 65 zone,
testing out the hot rod late at night on highway 280 in San Bruno.
My friends got me out of it, whew, can't elaborate.

    Another mistake I made, I gave my brother-in-law Bud a ride in it;
came back home and he had to take a nitroglycerin [heart patient].
Wasn't used to fast cars, wife wasn't too happy. Bud in Hot Rod.jpeg

  30. I hear ya Mick. Years ago I took a girl I had a date with for a ride in the coupe, she pissed her pants, and the seat.:)
