You know, I’ve been into hot rods since the late ‘50s but every time I see a group of hot rods caravanning somewhere my pulse quickens and I’ve gotta get near enough to check ‘em out. It looks like you’ve got a great group of guys nearby and lots of opportunities to get out and drive. Very cool. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hi Bob, yeah, I'm pretty fortunate; get to hang out with good friends with the same interests, Our friend Al called a BBQ at his place. What a car heaven piece of property. Aside from the garage posted here, there's another TWO 2 car garages attached to the house. The house was sold to a non-car person!!!! What a shame, what a waste. I should have bought the place myself, missed opportunity. Here's a few shots...
Hi Bob, my first car was a 40 Plymouth that I paid $15 for and had to tow home with a rope. 16 years old, built an baby hemi for it, Pop saw the valve covers and said no way. Had to stick another 6 in it, bummer. That's probably why I'm still into cars to this day. Here's a few shots, Mick
While I was in the Navy, my friend Dave [since grammar school] went in the Army and sent was to Korea, late 60s. He had this " silk screen" done for me while over there and sent it to my folks. Yep, we're still close friends...
I told my buddy Dave H. who now lives in southern Ca. about showing the hot rod on the HAMB so he sent me this decades old shot of him in front of it...
Interesting Hot Rod story. I met my fabricator Choke around 1980, he had a shop in Burlingame called Cabco. While at the shop a guy named TACH [Robert Paul Mooney with initials RPM] had a Dodge Dart convertible there. Wasn't an ordinary Dart. Had a blown Hemi in it, it was one of the first Pro Street cars built by Choke. He loaned me some huge wheels and tires for the car show, they looked so good that I bought my own set. TACH and his wife attended the show, they decided to trade me the convertible for the Hot Rod. It took me a week to decide and I figured if I blew the motor up in the Dart I'd be stuck with a ragtop Dart, big deal. This was an 8 second street car! Pictures and short video to follow, Mick
Mick, That little truck needs to go back to 1969 form with Cragars, an XC-8 crossram, and those cast Corvette valve covers. Don't get me wrong I like centerlines (probably shouldn't admit that here lol) but the best look that truck of yours ever had were those pics from 1969-70. Great thread I really enjoy the stories and photo's! Kevin
My friend's 97 year old mother-in-law painted this for me. Copied it from a wallet picture, never saw the car...
Last night was out first Friday Night Gathering of 2021, took the 30 pickup and the wife's 34 coupe. Great turn out, weather was perfect too...
This is a great thread. That first color picture looks a lot like Golden Gate Park. Maybe I missed it, but are those bottom black and white shots taken in the Sunset?
Yes! Golden Gate Park around 1969. The black-n-white shots were taken in my parents driveway in Daly City. I was born in SF [Mission District] but the folks had a house built in Daly City where Mission St turns into El Camino in 1956. Glad you like the thread and dig that Model A roadster [pan heads too], Mick
