hey guys, i got two weeks till back to the 50s and its like its impossible for me to find decent insurance.

i went to grundy and there price is freakin great but they wont insure me because im not 25 yrs old.

so i went to hagerty, and its way more money buts great coverage. one problem though. my permenate address and garage address, all that stuff is my parents house. so my parents show up as " licensed drivers in the house hold" so they want there birthdates and drivers license numbers. hell will sooner freeze over then they touch my car--by there own distastes-- so they refuse to give me the info. well it shows up in my file with hagerty so until i get that info they wont insure me. i would just "change" my address for my insurance to my buddies house and tell them im the only licensed driver but im preety sure if ive been calling every day trying to work something out and then sudenly ive got a differnt addresss there going to call b.s.

im broke as ****, i need some insurance, ive got another licensed and regestered car.

any ideas? im getting desprite and i realy dont want to risk a giant ticket, lose of a license, smashed up cars with bills under my name and hurting ppl that driving with no insurance risks.

    anybody?

I'm in the same boat. I'm 22, and Grundy wont touch me. Hagerty wont untill Im 25 either as my record has a few tickets. Im insured with Progressive now, but liability only, because they want to charge me and additional $3200 a year to insure my 47 with $25,000 stated value coverage. stated value doesnt gaurentee you anything, the insurance company will never pay that out, and I'm damn close to having that much invested in the car (if im not there already). I have heard so many cases where they take stated value, and after they subtract all of the money that the fine print says they can, they still screw you over. For now I guess I should just drive really carefully and hope I dont get hit, cuz when a dumb *** hits me, his insurance company will give me book value, probably about $5-6k. Kinda scary.... What would you do?

Hey Tim.... my Farmer's agent was telling me that they didn't do cl***ics (which isn't true) and couldn't even get me a quote for a daily driver that was that old, so I just insured a relic late model I had then, went in and told them that I needed to switch cars. :D

Believe it or not, all I've ever had on my A bones is PL and PD from the Farm Bureau in MI. I don't drive hard, have a good record, and it's less than $600 a year.

    Being a geezer helps....

Please, please, please do yourself a favor and DO NOT go with a conventional insurance carrier.

I spent over 25 grand and 3 years restoring my 65 Riviera, and then had it smashed by some stupid ***** in a Saturn. First her insurance agent tried to total my car for 4 grand, and then MY OWN insurance agent, state farm would only give me $6000.

I'm still walking funny from that deal.

I will never trust a conventional insurance agent with an old car EVER AGAIN.

I am way over 25 so I have no problems with age. I haven't had a wreck or ticket in over 10 years. We have Grange Insurance on the House and all our POVs. I am going with Grundy on the Dodge because they only want $205 a year for full coverage $100K liability PL, PD, comp, Collision. $25,000 Stated Value and No Deductable. We have decided that this is defanitly the way to go since Grange wants $750 a year just for liability for a Street Rod. Gumpa

  13. Man, I hate to say it, but you should just get any old insurance right now to make yourself legal. If you want to be fully covered with full replacement values and all of that stuff.....it ****s, but you are going to have to pay. I drove one of my 914's for 5 years without insurance years ago. In hindsite, that ****ed so hard, always looking out for the law and afraid for ANYTHING to happen. Make yourself legal and then go for the bells and wistles. Other insurance companies will be more willing to insure you if you already have insurance too.

Glad for you buddy, but what does that have to do with the situation here? You are like the thousands of others on this site that are over 25 and are able to get a specialty car insurance plan. Glad for you, ****s for us.....

Ive had good luck with State Farm. Ive been with them since I was 16 and Ive always had old cars. I had some problems with my 65 impala, got side swiped and then later some one broke in to it and they covered it all, it was really easy. I even have collision coverage on my 54 in case I wreck it they will fix it, not just the lowest legal coverage. I pay $35.00 a month for the 54. My friends 65 mustang had a small fire ( yea fuel line IS a regular maintance item) and they got him a new fancy shelby hood and painted it and all, hes with state farm too. Just my .02 cents

You might try Condon Skelly i dont know much about them though? Id call insurance places in the yellow pages and get a bunch of quotes go from there.

  17. I found that over a certain age the price doesn't change much. I use this outfit out of Washington that is like Geico - you get it direct - and changed from a '72 Pontiac to a '51 Chevy - it was the same price. Just liability though, I need to switch it to a company that gives a **** -

taylor wont touch my with a ten foot pole because of the age thing again :p

might end up with the prgressive option. preety much no coverage but ive never had good coverage anyways. lol if i got hit and had insurance to cover it id probably end up just fixing it on my own becasue id never realize that my insurnace would cover it lol.

    the search goes on

I'm insured through American Family. They required an appraisal, but I'm covered for the appraised value ($16.5k) and I'm paying under $250 per year for coverage. For the record, I'm 28, married and have 2 other cars and my home covered through American Family. Give Jeff Mayhew a call at 763-551-1074 and tell him Adam Bateman told you to call. Maybe he can help you out.

Condonskelly wont insure me either. They will accept only one minor incident per household. I have 2 speeding tickets on my record (once which comes off in september), and havnt had one in 2 years. I guess because of 2 tickets over 2 years ago makes me a high risk for them. So Hagerty wants to charge me $250 if I did qualify, why not charge me $1000, or ****, even $2000 a year since they think I'm a higher risk. When I asked that, they sorta laughed. I cant wait till Im 25!

Progressive offered me Stated Value (at a value of $25,000) coverage at $1600 additional every 6 months over my current liability only rate. A lot of money for coverage that isnt very cut and dry. Do you really get $25k in the event of a total loss? Who knows, its up to them, and you know they will find every reason to give you nothing.

I have Nationwide on my 52. Mainly because it is my daily and I can't get specialty insurance because I don't have another vehicle to designate as my "primary" transportation.

Anyways, I don't know all the details on how it gets set up, but I got "stated value" so I'm paying insurance on about what it would cost to replace/duplicate the car... which is admittedly a bit more than it's worth... and definitely more than I have in it.

I was 23 when I got the policy 11 years ago. I've upped the stated value a coouple times as I've improved the car. You just hafta get an appraisal for the value of the car according to what value you want to place on it. In my case, my Dad runs a Rod Shop, and he just typed up a deal on his company's letterhead stating the value I wanted to insure my car for. Pretty much any business that deals with cars (mechanics, dealers, etc.) would work. Of course this might be different in other states, but so far it worked the same for me in NC and TX.

Smacked a deer with it back in 2002... they were a little slow to get the adjuster out and to get the check to the shop doing the repairs, but it all worked out okay.

The only issue with Stated value is, well, as far as I know, its not the same thing as Agreed Value, like what the specialty companies do. I have seen several references (but not actual stories) to what happens when an old car with stated value (that is over blue book that the insurance companies use) is involved in an accident. There has to be something about stated value that allows the insurance company some loophole to not pay out the actual insured value (in the case of a total loss, or total it below its insured value), otherwise they would all have an Agreed Value policy available.

I've got my Model A insured with Great American through my Nationwide agent. GA is for guaranteed stated value-does have a milage and some other limitations but is pretty good ocverage at a reasonable price. I like it because, since I got it through my regular agent, I can stack the liability coverages. So three cars plus my general liability package gives me over 1.6 million in liability coverage-who knows who will sure ya.

I must have had my terminology mixed up. My policy is agreed value...

thanks for setting me straight! :)

  29. sounds like you agent doesn't want to, i have farmers for all my cars (homes, tools etc...) the coverage ranges from liability to full and i can pick and choose. i've aready talked to him about the '36 as a daily with liablity, un insured motorist, theft for about $45-50 a month with NO restrictions and a value of $35k.

Stated Value = YOUR opinion of what your car is worth.
Agreed Value = The insurance company AND you agree as to its value.

With stated value if you have a problem you have to prove what you spent on the car. YOUR time and elbow grease doesn't count. Only receipts. And only upt to the stated value. THAT's how they screw you.
