Looking to move my '59 F100 into a daily driver situation. Insurance looks like it's going to be a real game. Does anybody have solid news on a good deal?

What kind of talk is that? I'll try!

Look Mac, if you only want to lay out beater change for the Five Nine just to put the skins on the bricks I would zip on down to the suits in a box and put myself in good hands. Maybe see what the Flo chick can do and maybe a pig will fly your way if you get close to the Farmers Jack .
    We are talking ability man...LIABILITY...

Now if you want the promised Cash if you're in a Bash your going to need a Cl***ic car Policy.
Before you put the scribble on the pulp, man... take a peep at the small vowels. Those Palookas can be real drag. Like...how far you can take a ride and if there's shingles over your tin.

anything more than just liability would be a waste of money since they would just total it with even minor damage. Ive been there before. They will promise the world until you have a claim....then suddenly its just a vehicle that's more than 10 years old and will cost more than its worth to fix as far as they are concerned.

Nice! I didn't realize I was sounding so dated. At this point I'm just looking to be legal with the '59 as a daily driver but from what I've seen so far it's a bummer. I don't have a collector style trailer queen just an old truck that I wanna drive. Ya know. I'm seeing that fancy pants insurers put limits on driving- does me no good. The big ones may not even cover me. Is this your experience?

Allstate has covered my stuff and it was easy peasy. Cheap too but...I've been with them since I was 16. A good agent who appreciates your business helps. I have always had just liability.

I thought I had a minor issue with my 50 Business Coupe. My bill always listed it as a truck. Come to find out they were correct. In their data base a Business Coupe is a utility vehicle. Their system recognized utility vehicles as trucks.

As I said in my post, Allstate, Progressive, Gieco and Farmers plus many more should be able to give you a trouble free liability policy. You may need to find a good agent though.

Some a-holes around here, you have to put on ignore.

I would shop around still within cl***ic car insurance so you don't get beat up in case the unthinkable happens. Some have better mileage allowances than others.

I had an OT Chevy wagon that was maybe 22 years old at the time I was looking for insurance for, no collision just liability and gl***. I had my insurance company that I had my wife's car with, they wouldn't even touch it. I did find someone else to cover the basics at a good rate.

In the case of trucks, if you have another car in your name that is considerably newer, you may get a real break on coverage.

idk what kind of insurance they have for antiques/cl***ics down south but if its anything like what we have up here we are limited to how many miles we put on them(I know its kilometers but my brain don't work that way) my way around that is to disconnect the speedometer after a few miles(this way it looks like you drove it a bit more then the last time they checked)

I knew one guy who disconnected his speedo cable under the dash and connected it to another one he lashed to his steering column. Looked like *** but he knew how fast and how far he actually went.

another problem with speciality insurers, they want a locked garage. This means, for us old folks who have moved to a condo, getting a leased U-store which can be a pain depending on the distance. I dunno, I eschewed street rod plates, got regular p***enger plates, had my OT car insurance company quote me a rate with no mileage restrictions, no garage requirements. I have appraisal value comp but not collision as that really bumps up the price. Taking a chance? Yeah but I am almost 72 and what the hell. When I was a teen, all I had was basic minimum liability and I thought the world was my oyster. I got the comp as I have to park it next to condo with a cover on it so this takes care of vandals and in the case of weather, hail or wind damage.
Sooner or later, all these guys with antique plates, espesially here in NH, are going to get a surprise. Here antique plates are limited inspection non-modified cars that are meant for parades and so forth, with very limited mileage. Makes me shake my head when I see 6:71 blown tubbed Novas sporting antique plates (older than 25 years). The legislature is always looking for revenue and sooner or later this loophole will get closed.

Insurance issue solved. No problem on basic liability with my current national agent. Driving truck now though I'm chasing a cooling issue. Thanks for the words guys.

  13. It's a game. Usually liability only on any old daily driver, Because of the parts situation (i.e.: hard/impossible to find).

Yet Allstate gave me full coverage on my Gold Wing. My 1983 Aspencade. And I for sure queried that one, but it's legit.

As for getting hit, if it's not your fault, the insurance company's mandate is to put you as you were before the accident. And you Never have to accept their first offer, Ever.

P.S. My sister is an exec w/ins. co. I don't get my information on this second hand...I go to the source.

txturbo got it right. In fact some insurers
may not even want to insure a 55 year old vehicle.

Another thing with only liability insurance is when you have a claim that someone else is at fault, your own company will not do anything to help you,i run a bodyshop and see this all the time, when you have the full deal and a mishap happens, they actually make money off of it,they go after the other company, they bill them for all of their expenses and etc. When you only have the minimum coverage they wont willingly do that,Not fair but that is how they operate. The bottom feeder insurers will smile till it comes time to 'award' you. Then it's par to look up the state's insurance commission. Reptilian behaviors. I'd shop around for a house that is willing to ***ign a value to your rig.

I see the OP got to where he needed to be, so, FWIW: I used AAA to insure a number of older cars/trucks as daily drivers. Don't think I had collision on them, but everything else. No problem(s), although I didn't get into accidents w/them. Agents were surprised that I wanted to use them as dd's, but treated them as "normal", so no limitations. Rates weren't that much cheaper than newer stuff, but the "savings" was in no collision, 'cause there was no note on them, good driving record, etc. Plated them as normal, too. I still use AAA, 13+ yrs later. I've used Met in the past, too. It's worth shopping around. ie: ask very pointed Q's, & make sure you get the proper answers. I switched to Met because of this, & then to AAA for a serious price break.

Also make sure you ask them some hard questions, better to know the answer now, then when they tell you its not in the policy, you may not like what you hear, but it will help yo make the right decision for the type of coverage you need. Harvey
